im not too sure then, it probably needs a recompile. i'd love to muck around with this more but since i got exams soon, it'll have to wait it could be you graphics card thats giving you hassle as well, since its using directx, im getting perfect playback on my mchine, even with pp turned on to 4, i still get only about 70% cpu usage on my machine. Always uses 100% CPU, even with "-vo null" (No video output). So it has to be the decoder.
edit: uses 100% CPU with "-vo null -nosound" Benchmark: 95.5% CPU-Time seems to be used by the Kernel. Strange result for a p3-1GHz. finally!
does anybody know how to set mplayer up to play my movies when i doubleclick on them? i used the filetypes-dialog of windows to point avis to mplayer, but when i double-click on a file containing spaces in the filename, windows passes all "strings" of the name after another and uses the spaces as a separation. so "my movie" passes "my" and then "movie" to the player.

100% cpu problem
I also tried to play a movie with mplayer on a pIII 800
and it worked. Mplayer runned at 100% but the movie played without hassle. I didn't had time to use the -vo directx option. On my AMD Xp 2200+ I also have 100%. I find it very strage. Is the source of this mplayer for windows the same as the source for the linux version? Can I find info about this mplayer version on the original mplayer site? (I searched but couldn't find it). It's realy nice to see this program in windows. If the 100% bug gets fixed I'll use it as standard player. Thnx Mille |

on my Duron 800 (XP-Pro) i get about 70-80 % cpu regardless of whether i use or don't use '-vo directx' and/or '-pp 0'. clip resolution: 512x384. codecs: divx3.11 (nandub), mp3.

does anybody besides me have a problem with jerky playback (probabely not decoded b-frames)?
And, i get screen tearing. Doesn't it use overlay? on my system mplayer uses reasonable amounts of cpu depending on the clip res etc.

i had some problems with jerkyness as well. i think, it is due to cpu-usage, since not decoded bframes usually show up and tall "b-frame decoder lag / missing b-frame" or somethink like it. cpu is anyway at its limit, wich should surely will be solveable in the near future. under linux i can play mpeg4 any size with a pentiumII 233. mplayer decoding will not use different decoding-techniques under windows.

sure, i'll get together the links that i got for the "codec packs" and put together a few instructions tonight after i get back from college. rv9 playback is rather nice with mplayer. i'm also going to try to compile my own executable later on as well and see how that goes. |

Rv9 playback works for me too. However, smils do not seem to work.
The tearing/banding prob surfaces int rv9 and xvd content.

@kilg0r3,
hmm, sorry then.. is your screen refresh-rate any multiple of your video fps? since mplayer is no frontend for directshow as most of the other players, it should actually be very independent from all those a/v syncing and stuttering problems direct show introduced, but who knows, maybe there are similar problems with it under windows. but i might be wrong here..

here is the url to get the rv9 codecs for mplayer
http://www.mplayerhq.hu/~alex/codecs...codecs.tar.bz2 get the above file and the windows version of mplayer from the start of the this thread, either one will do. then decompress the files from rp9win32codecs.tar.bz2, then move these files to "codecs/" which is in the same directory that the mplayer.exe executable is. its a pretty simple process. then mplayer will then play be able to play rv9 files. http://www.mplayerhq.hu/~alex/codecs/index.html has a few other codecs for mplayer (some of the linux versions of the codecs dont work for the windows version of mplayer) (also www.7-zip.org the program here can decompress .bz2 compressed files for those who are having problems decompressing these files) |

just a quick update regarding quicktime.
the current mplayer-win32 seems to have some problems with playing quicktime files of newer versions (v5/6). but i was able to play the matrix-reloaded QT trailer without video (only sound). you have to download the qt files from the experimental codecs page, and put them in windows\system32. it's an anomality, since it SHOULD have worked when put into mplayer\codecs dir, but it currently doesn't. the windows\system32 is a workaround untill they fix it. |
