I already made the change. It uses the reliable version all the time, but then tries the "sonate" version before announcing that an encode fails.
An old axiom in the programming world: If they have to read the manual to use it, they won't use it. |

I don't know if this has any relevance here, but for the older Kurtnoise version of Aften 0.0.8 it is recommended to always use the parameter "-readtoeof 1". Without this option it can happen that the encode stops before EOF is reached.

That setting is always used in BD-RB. The bottom line is that there doesn't appear to be any version that works on all systems. But the one I was using before this last change is by far the most reliable, and I went against my better judgement in changing it. In fact it appears to work for every system except sonate's. I'll use the Kurtnoise version as a backup in case of failure.

And if many people are doing bd25 encodes, the question of AC3 conversions might not ever come up for them. I remember a year ago trying an AC3 conversion and getting the aften failure but after realizing that decent 25g BD media cost was on a par with DVD-9 , I simply clicked the keep HD and do not encode AC3 parameters and never had a problem until I had a specific reason to create a BD5. So now at least the info is out there in case anyone runs into the same problem. |

Hi folks,
Ran into an interesting problem with a movie-only, BD-25 backup of HP7pt2. The BD-25 size was OK so the original video was used, and there were no concerns throughout the BD-RB and ImgBurn processes. However, when I watch the resulting video on my standalone player (Sony BDP-S580), there is a noticeable video stutter at the boundary point between each of the original streams; there were 58 input m2ts streams. The stutter looks like 1 video frame is misplaced at the boundary. The audio was re-encoded to AC3-640, and there is no perceptible audio stutter at these boundary points. I have not noticed this problem before on any of the previous HP discs. If I turn on the "display" feature of the BD player it shows an instantaneous Mbps readout. Typically for this disc it ranges between 15 and 25 Mbps, but whenever a segment boundary happens the readout briefly drops down to 1Mbps and then jumps back up again. I did a detailed check of the first 4 boundary points in another multi-segment BD-25 backup; Aliens (Alien 2). I could not detect any stutter at those first 4 boundary points, and the Mbps readout was steady. So, something odd seems to be happening with THIS particular disc. I'm running another encode right now, using the "FORCE_ENCODE=1" option, to see if allowing BD-RB to actually re-encode the video before multiplexing makes any difference. If anyone else who has done a BD-25 of HP7pt2 feels inclined to check their backup for this issue then the first 4 boundary points if this film happen at the following points: 0:05:36 0:06:20 0:13:17 0:14:26 Here's the top of the log: Code:
[08:42:12] BD Rebuilder v0.39.04 (beta) - Source: HARRY_POTTER_7_PART_2 - Input BD size: 22.49 GB - Approximate total content: [02:10:26.860] - Target BD size: 22.95 GB - Windows Version: 6.1 [7601] - MOVIE-ONLY mode enabled - Quality: High Quality (Default), Two Pass - Audio Settings: AC3=1 DTS=1 HD=0 Kbs=640 [08:42:15] PHASE ONE, Encoding - [08:42:15] Processing: VID_00004 (1 of 58) - [08:42:15] Extracting A/V streams [VID_00004] - Extracting A/V to M2TS [VID_00004] - Extracting A/V from M2TS [VID_00004] - [08:47:10] Reencoding video [VID_00004] - [08:47:10] Keeping original video (no reencode) - [08:47:10] Processing audio tracks - Track 4352 (eng): Reencoding audio to AC3... - [08:52:30] Multiplexing M2TS - [08:53:00] Processing: VID_00015 (2 of 58) Regards, Bob |

Ran into an unusual situation while poking around BD-Rebuilder.
I have run a couple of sucessfull encodes but wanted to check my settings so I tried the tip of "run as administrator" I was surprised that BD-RB reported that ffdshow had to be installed before it could run and that BD-RB must abort. When I run BD-RB inspect, it shows all the ffdshow options set as OK. Just thought I would pass this along. Thanks for the great work. Mike |

Interestingly, my latest rebuild of this disc using a forced encode does not show the same problems. I'm re-doing the forced encode again at a higher quality level. Then I'll repeat the original, no video re-encode version to see if the problem returns. Thank goodness for BD-RE discs. |

In few cases I got a problem with 1-pass crf prediction:
Script: SelectRangeEvery(4800,48,4000) The problem is that the test clip takes the same first 48 frames of the movie repeatedly, i.e. there is no advancement to the next group of frames. Consequently the crf prediction is totally skewed. I did not find a systematic pattern as to when this happens. Just to mention that the last source was a 1080i/25 (MBAFF) which I resized to 720p/50 (BD-RB applies frame duplication for BD compliance). Not sure if this format triggers the problem. |

This is a great tool, just like DVD Rebuilder (is) was.
I've been using BD Rebuilder since september now without any problem. I do "movie only" back-ups (i live in the R2 zone) all the time. Except for 'The Speed Of Life", thas was a full back-up. All played properly on a TViX S1 mediaplayer. To jdobbs: THANK YOU! I made a donation a few days ago. Look at the attachment for the log-file. Last edited by Glarioo; 27th December 2011 at 16:06. |

A bit lost
Hello,
I'm trying to get the hang of BDRebuilder... So far I've been able to re-econde a movie (Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets) to a BD-25, but to succeed, I had to check "Do not reencode AC3" to get rid of the AFTEN errors. Now I try to encode the same movie to BD-5, and here is what I get: ----------------------- [17:04:44] BD Rebuilder v0.39.06 (beta) - Source: HARRY_POTTER_2 - Input BD size: 26,24 GB - Approximate total content: [02:40:56.188] - Target BD size: 4,36 GB - Windows Version: 5.1 [2600] - Auto Quality: High Quality (Default), Two Pass - Audio Settings: AC3=1 DTS=1 HD=0 Kbs=640 [17:04:46] PHASE ONE, Encoding - [17:04:46] Processing: VID_00037 (1 of 1) - [17:04:46] Extracting A/V streams [VID_00037] - [17:38:18] Reencoding video [VID_00037] - Source Video: VC-1, 1920x1080 - Rate/Length: 23,976fps, 231.517 frames - Bitrate: 2.809 Kbs - [17:38:18] Reencoding: VID_00037, Pass 1 of 2 - Encode failed. Retrying. - Encode failed. Retrying. - Reached retry limit. Aborting. - BD-Rebuilder v0.39.06 (beta) - Windows Version: 5.1 [2600] - AVISYNTH Version: 2.5.8.0, Ok - HAALI Splitter: 1.11.96.14, Ok - FFDSHOW: 3882, Ok [17:38:34] - Failed video encode, aborted I've tried various settings without success... Any ideas? |
