Rule 13 does not apply in the Translations forum.

"13) The official language is English. Outside the translator forum English is the only allowed language."

The german doom9/Gleitz board is the german speaking community of the doom9 network, so yes, it has...

Michael Gleitz migrated the users of the former German doom9 board when its administrator had to resign.

If this thread was not acceptable, it could have been questioned by moderators since 2005.
It's fine. I see the forum is up again since yesterday. Could you tell me in a few lines what happened? Did the site need more bandwidth then was paid for?

What I heard from the admin:

The site is hosted by one of the most famous hosters in Germany. This hoster appears to "overbook" its servers with V-Servers similar to hotels in tourism strongholds, hardly leaving any CPU time for a forum. And how much does a forum need?

A PLESK update takes half an hour. Posting or editing returns a HTTP 500: Internal Server Error. An additional database backup script run by the admin is cancelled due to a timeout.

I wonder if I shall rather not mention the hoster being named "Strato".

Why not deservedly shame them? The forum is down again, BTW.

back online, may be it's using a more restrictive robots.txt, since the amount of robots in the board went down a lot. Or may be they just haven't found the board atm.

The issue is outside the V-Server our board is running in. Imagine our board standing in a japanese subway during rush-hour: It had more air to breathe with less other passengers in the same waggon.

Happens every once in a while, usually after several postings or edits; each change to the database which involves a log output appears to be delayed extremely. Yesterday I tried to delete a double-post for half an hour.

There is definitely a serious problem with the board's consistency.

If you look at this page, you see my post from today at 17:48 under "User-to-User Projekte".

But if you try to read that post, you'll see it isn't actually there! The last post in that thread is from "21. August 2013, 20:42".

I post this issue here, because adding more posts while the database obviously is in a corrupted state probably doesn't make thins better...

I don't understand this problem technically at all; but it seems that changes (posting, deleting, editing, moderating) are postponed, and this postponing provokes "HTTP 500: Internal Server Error" responses for several minutes.

Today I tried to moderate a thread: replying, deleting double and triple posts because the poster did not read the notice that his post has to be released by a moderator, and releasing the latest of these posts; I had to lock this thread to do so because the poster kept posting while I got error responses for moderating activities...

How few percent of the CPU cycles does STRATO assign to our V-Server?!

I just tried to post again. Interestingly, both posts (the one from 17:48 and the one from just now) appeared. But only until I reloaded the page. Now both are gone...

Well, how much do they guarantee ???

If you pay for a "cheap" hosting plan that has no guarantee minimum resources (or the guarantee minimum resources are extremely low), then you must not be surprised if you only get what you payed for - not more.

Everything that is not guaranteed, should be assumed to not be available.

If, on the other hand, they do not provide the minimum resources they have guaranteed, this should be reported to the support once. Second time, I would request my money back and go to a different hoster...

(Side note: Had a customer who complained our software crashes unexpectedly with SIGTERM. After a lot of debugging, it turned out the problem was not in our software at all. The server would simply kill all processes running for more than a few seconds! Guess what? They had selected a cheap hosting plan intended for simple www hosting only. And then they tried to run their CPU intensive transcoding tasks on that server. What a surprise that it didn't turn out well ^^)

Michael Gleitz is the customer. He will know the details (not me). I am pretty certain that he knew what to expect, and he explained to me already that the issues are most probably a result of overbooking the server like hotels in vacation seasons... And making a backup script timeout by failing to throttle all the other V-Servers running besides the one which runs our server means that the hoster cannot keep promises being part of a contract. So I was told. Well, I hope Michael will reply with first-hand facts.

That was certainly the time when the admin tried to discover the reason of, and fix the issue about, empty edit boxes due to incompatibilities of vBulletin v4 with PHP 5.4, umlauts, and htmpspecialchars() without codepage parameter.
