converting to mp4 for P800

Hi, I recently got a Sony Ericsson P800 which runs Symbian OS. According to the manual it will play .mp4 video files. Now I'm pretty sure DivX 5.05 is a mpeg-4 format, but the phone won't play DivX .avi. How do I convert an .avi, .wmv or .mpg file to .mp4 format so that I can play it on my P800?

Via memory stick or IR/blue-tooth as far as I remember. You can play Doom on it too!

Use Quicktime to create simple *.MP4 files via its export feature.

killingspree: thanks, I am looking at the utilities now. In reply to your question, the P800 has 16MB internal storage and comes with a 16MB Memory Stick Duo, but they go up to 128 MB. Enough for a bunch of music videos or half a feature film.

Bond: I used the search originally and came up with that page, but couldn't make head nor tail of it. It's like when I was learning to fly - the instructor said "ok, now very gently line up with runway 14". He didn't realise that I didn't even know enough to understand that simple statement! Same same for the guides, I looked but couldn't find anything that made sense to me.

Edge: I'd rather not have to pay for Quicktime as I've just bought Dr DivX and the missus will be on my back again.

Thanks all, checking the tools now.

I remember reading up on that phone and they recommended Quicktime to create the MP4 content. Not so sure if it re-encodes though. Is there not a "Direct-stream-copy" like feature?

@ruprecht
the most important part of the guide is that it points to a tool called mp4ui which incorporates all tools mentioned by killingspree in a gui (graphical user interface).
so it can everything you need but is much easier to handle!

no there isnt such a feature. quicktime uses its own mpeg-4 codec to create mp4 content (which isnt comparable to xvid/divx)
i think for newbies it would be a very easy way to create mp4 content with quicktime (thats why it is recommended i think) but by far not the best (quality wise)
