DVDSubEdit: "Ooops! The modified encoded subpic does not fit..."

Hey guys! Need some help as the following happens:
I edited the bmp subpic of a dvd menu. It consisted of small circles and I wanted to add the words from the menu image. But it turns out, when I want to replace the old subpic with the new one in dvdsubedit it gives me the message above. Is there some way to overcome this by any means? Please help!

Welcome to Doom9.

Yes, you have to demux the whole subtitles stream, convert it (losslessly) to XML+BMP/PNG, replace the old BMP/PNG with a new image, reassemble the stream, then remux it back.

Tools: BDSub2Sup and pgcdemux and muxman.

The error message means that the new bitmap is larger than the old one, and it will not fit in the available space.
