With "interlace fix" you are refering to replacing --interlaced in x264 mode with --tff or --bff? This will be implemented soon. Bitrate calculator is the problem with M2TS and non AC3 audio tracks, correct?

Hi Zathor,

I have figured out how to reproduce this bug, you need to increase the windows font size to 125% or higher and then you should see it.

100%

125%

150%

EDIT: It seems that all video preview windows get stretched

Yes, to both. (calc oversizes by ~4%). I run 1888 svn separately just for the calculator. That ver is pretty spot on.

In the meantime, I have a tff video that I want to encode smaller, so do I just add --tff to the command line with no other value ?

And, adding nothing will encode as progressive and is there any advantage to doing that, quality wise ?

Feature request: Support for .wav in MKV Muxer and Adaptive Muxer.
Would appreciate this feature very much as it makes my job of ripping my DVD to .mkv while copying the source audio which is .wav a lot easier compared to going to mkvmerge GUI to mux it manually.

Anyway I see that changes have been made for the x264 interlaced encoding command line on SF, thanks Zathor!

Can any of the devs update the VSFilter with the updated ones found here as it fixes some subtitle issues.

Can you please post a direct link to your mentioned build? I cannot find a recent one (seems to be from 2008/2009). Maybe you can try other filters from here as well: https://sourceforge.net/projects/mpc...s%20-%20Win32/

Apologies for the link.
http://www.free-codecs.com/directvobsub_download.htm
Click "Download [ DirectVobSub 2.39 [2009-06-24] without installer - for Windows 2k/2k3/XP/Vista ]"
Couldn't find a direct link but this link should work.
The build is 2.39.5.2.
The VSFilter in the SF link is 1.5.*.* and has been reported by some of the users on SF that it doesn't work that well for them
Details and samples are in the SF bug tracker link in my previous post.

Yes, I am aware of that. But my link pointed also to other (older) builds of vsfilter which are newer than the version you provided. But we can try the old one.

I think I have made a mistake by comparing the version number, just realize the 1.5.*.* is meant for the MPC version number.

I shall try to do a test with the sample files provided on SF with the newer VSFilter provided in MPC and report back.

Edit: Did a test with the sample files provided on SF using the current VSFilter in MeGUI which uses the latest VSFilter from MPC.
Hardsubbing works fine for me.

I guess it is okay to leave the more recent build of VSFilter in MeGUI.

Hey! I just wanna ask one thing. I successfully converted MKV file into MP4, but when I added subtitles the result was that they were extra, extra small. You can barely see them. Is there any way to fix this?

If you are using .ass, you can modify the font size by opening the subtitle in notepad and edit it yourself.

Before posting some stupid feature requests I'd like to ask some questions to see which of them are reasonable and which not.

1) In the scrip creator: Why is resizing limited to 720 in the width? Shouldn't it allow for full HD resolution?

2) When processing anamorphic cinema-scope input (e.g. 720x576 video, with 70 pixel top and bottom border, identified as ITU 16:9 PAL): After auto-cropping and checking the anamorphic encoding box, the resulting video turned out to have 720x304 resolution.
Why isn't it possible to get the original height (minus cropping), thus keeping all the original lines but only stretching them in the width at playback (since that is what gets done anyway). I was kinda expecting a resulting video with 436 height and whatever width matching to it.
Would this be possible? Maybe with a simple check box? Or are there good reasons for not allowing this?

3) Would it be possible to add options for keeping the original video and audio data but still allowing for trimming? Or does that require external tools?

4) Currently the whole vob file gets analyzed and with this settings the encoding gets started. Would it be possible to first trim the video in the avs cutter and then analyze it? Thus getting the best default settings for the intended video part?
I'm asking this because recently I had two music videos, both anamorphic, interlaced (hard telecined) and 720x480 NTSC data at 29,79. The first resulted in a 29,79 fps and the other in a 23,79 fps video. The reason is probably that in both vob files were more than just those clips. In the one however all video was interlaced and at 29,79 and in the other the second part of that file was progressive, thus the analyzer said 'partly film', whereas the the interesting part of it would have been completely interlaced.

5) I just toyed with VirtualDubMod and found the filter preview window that is showing the original video as well quite nice. Would something similar be possible?

5b) Adding filters by clicking (and previewing the result) would also be nice. But I guess I'm dreaming here. ^_-

6) Also I still have trouble understanding the result of cropping on the resulting video size / aspect ratio:
I have a video (720x480 anamorphic) where I crop 4 pixels left and two right. I would have expected the resulting video to be just about 6-8 pixel smaller in width than the original, but the result turned out to be wider than that (about the size of the height of the window title bar more in width).
Still being a noob I was expecting that if I start playing the original file and the encoded file in 1:1 with MPC that if I move the windows to match the pixels should about exactly map 1:1 as well, thus keeping the aspect ratio perfectly fine without any distortion.
Unfortunately that isn't the case, ans so far I could not get the expected result even when setting the DAR in the script manually.
Is this a bug? Or am I mistaken and the expected result can not be achieved? If not, what is the best that can be achieved?
BTW: where can I read about the math involved that MeGUI/AviSynth needs to do to create the script. I like to understand what is going on here.

That's it. I'm sorry that it got this long.

1) Resizing is limited so you can't resize to a higher resolution than the source. Except in some cases it wouldn't make sense to do so. In short it's there to prevent inexperienced users from doing something stupid.

2) What it should do if you checked the anamorphic encoding box and didn't touch anything else is resize to 720*432 and set the appropriate flags. It's then the players responsibility to stretch the video correctly. I haven't used the feature in a while though. If you didn't check the box 720*304 would be the expected resolution. Are you sure you checked the box. Also how did you determine the resolution. Maybe your player scales the video down instead of up when it corrects the aspect ratio.

3) Not with Avisynth and generally you can't trim a file on an arbitrary location without reencoding at least parts of it. I think Avidemux supports that.

5a) I think AVSPMod supports this feature if you need it now. You can find it on the Avisynth forum. I haven't tried it, but maybe you can just edit the script to stack the two videos.

5b) You can comment out commands with a # and hit F5 to refresh the preview.

6) By default the anamorphic encoding is followed by a resize to mod16. This would also explain why the videos don't look the same. You can select other options in the dropdown.

Avisynth documentation can be found at avisynth.org, which currently doesn't work for me
If you want to use some of the more complicated stuff you find on the Avisynth forum here there is usually plenty of documentation in the corresponding thread. Usually there is also a manual included when you download new filters.

Ok, that's nice to know. So far I have only a DVD drive and was wondering what would happen with BluRay discs.

Hmm... MPC and VLC player both show it as 720x304. I only checked the anamorphic box and then hit auto-crop as well.

Is there loss implied? In that case I would encode in x264 right away with MeGUI. ^_-

Currently I'm still troubled with even more basic issues. It was only a very convenient way to actually see what a specific filter does. Once you know that there probably isn't much use to it anymore.

Nice to know. But I think there was one problem: AFAIR when you refresh the preview (not reload the video) the position in the playback window is also changed back to its initial position. It would be nice if the position would not change at all.
Another idea would be to add a horizontal slider that separates the window in a left and right part, one showing the original video and the other the resulting one. I saw something like that somewhere and it was the most convenient idea I've seen to handle those type of preview problems.

Yes, it allows for mod 4 on the lower end.
(BTW: resize in the sense of cropping or scaling?)
But I was believing that providing DAR in the script could be used to correct the effect completely (by telling the player how it should be). Am I mistaken here?
