mmm, so that's definitely a bug. The bitmap should be saved the same way regardless of what the display mode is...

I have a question. I'm not sure if it's somehow possible currently, but if not, I would like to suggest it as a future feature. I've got a DVD with subs that look like this.

http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/6104/subsdp7.gif

In fact, this is a fairly standard practice with Asian DVD's. I'd like to be able to crop the first line of Asian characters out, leaving just the English. I tried doing this using the OCR and then going through subpic-by-subpic, but the OCR often recognizes the Asian characters as part of the English characters. Therefore, it's impossible to delete them. A feature which allowed for x number of pixels to be cleared off the top of all subpics would be awesome.

mmm, it's hard to envision many other uses for this kind of feature. I'm thinking it's a lot of effort for a very specific use... But I can understand your frustration. YOu can certainly do it subpic by subpic by erasing the characters one by one (but maybe not), and in any case, this must be quite tedious...
I"m not sure I can put that in though...

I tried DVDSubEdit. It starts when there is no ini file. And when I try to start it again, it crashes immediately, unless I delete the ini file before that.

Try to insert such (first) line in the ini-file after [DVDSubEdit] header. It helps me for the same problem.

I still don't understand where this crash comes from. The line in the ini file is a band-aid against it, but I'm really puzzled. The problem is that this does not happen on my system, so it's very hard to figure out what's really going on...
Sorry about that...

Hello!
Some months ago we discussed about the "jumping" subtitles when modifing the vertical position. I checked all letters from the bottom lines of the subtitles and with only one letter the subtitle is not moved at the bottom of the desired border.
You can see in the screenshot and this is because of the 6-th letter from the last word. Here I put X instead of the "t with something under it" of the subtitles word: >> divorXat <<.

enjoy,
Mtz

I suspect that is supposed to be a c with a "cedilla" accent.

Thanks. It does not crash anymore.

Maybe this should be mentioned on the homepage.

Version 1.34 of DVDSubEdit is now available here...

This is a tiny update with a bug fixe and a one improvement.
  • Pressing "Hide subpic" and applying to all didn't hide all subpics. This is now fixed.
  • It's now possible to move subpics by odd numbers of pixels (imagine that!).

Enjoy...

Are there any plans to add a "teaching" feature to the OCR? I've found the OCR to be very accurate, but almost always there are some letters which are mis-read throughout the movie. For instance, in one movie everything was basically perfect except f's were detected as l's throughout. I know I could manually go through and correct these errors, but that's pretty time consuming.

Anyway, great app either way.

Well, GOCR (which DVDSubEdit uses for the ocr stuff) has a "teaching" thing... But I haven't enabled that (it would require a bit of a UI, plus a database, and quite a few changes to the code)... Maybe in a later version. Perhaps it would be wise to use SupRip if your main task is OCR...

subpics by odd numbers of pixels

I've never had a problem with past versions in moving subs down to better match my tv (4:3) but with 1.34 I happened to pick an odd pixel # which caused the subs to break up. Its hard to describe but they look like a comb was dragged thru horizontaly.
Moving them to an even # they stay solid. The effect is only apparent on a tv, not on pc. Maybe it's just this title (Trois Coulers Bleu) I'll try some others

mmm, that's not good! I must admit I didn't run any tests using a TV... I'll try that.

i happen to have 2 identical dvd players hooked up to my av, so I did a side by side with a clip from hard boiled on 2 rw's. Ideally I'd move -28 but to test i did one -5, the other -6.(to eliminate letterbox area as problem) The -5 shows same "breaking" so for 4:3 ntsc tv's I'd stick to even #'s
otherwise subedit is my most useful prog.

That's caused by the top and bottom fields now being reversed. Within the command area should be a SET_DSPXA (06) command, try swapping the addresses.

Hi Kmac, I might be the cause of your problems as I have asked JeanL for the feature allowing an odd-number moving of subs. See description of my problem I posted at VideoHelp.com:
http://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic...light=#1580753

I have a 4:3 TV as well (Sony of some sort), and the settop player I have now is Panasonic DMR EH55. This player is picky about subtitles that start vertically on an odd-line; it causes flicker on the TV. My previous player was Samsung SV-DVD1E and it was processing subs correctly, irrespective of where they start.

JeanL: thanks for sorting my issue but to prevent problems for other users, maybe the default vertical moving of DVDSubEdit should be by even numbers only (like pre-1.34), and there would be a box to untick in the Options dialogue where you could allow for moving subs by odd lines too (and you may wish to show some warning with link to this thread)
