In fact, it looks like it is exactly backward and there's no way it could do that on its own. Have you tried any other discs? Last edited by jdobbs; 24th April 2011 at 12:52. |

I did The King's Speech, R1, Blu-ray to DVD alternate output with this new release BD-RBV03708, and the subtitles came out perfect! Used the default settings so the subtitle colors are yellow, but are perfectly in sync and display for the correct length of time. Final output was 4.29GB, keeping the one audio track and both english and spanish subtitle tracks.
Well done jdobbs! |

So I load BD-RBV03708, and it shows "Approximate Source Content: [ 5:03:47.266]. However, the main movie, 00000.m2ts, is not in the list of streams to be reencoded. If I switch to Movie Only mode, then it is listed as well as the three alternative mpls files for 00000.m2ts ( 00000mpls, 00059.mpls, and 00060.mpls ) for a movie length of 2:18:14.452. HP5 does have 14 listed audio tracks available for the main movie, of which two are English; one is LPCM 4608kbps and one is 640kbps 5.1 DD. The largest listed stream to reencode in full backup mode is VID_00031, an MPEG-2, 480i 29.97fps stream, and the next largest is VID_00002, which is a VC-1, 1080i, 29.97fps stream. So it does appear their is something not right. If I click Backup on the above listed attempt, I get Target is too small to continue! Last edited by Capsbackup; 24th April 2011 at 16:14. |

It is possible that I preprocessed the sups with BDSup2Sub when making the BD5 backup, because of the issue of TSMUXER with sups resizing, or just to shift the sups into the active picture area, I don't remember exactly. Anyway, the BD5 had no playback issues with the sups. I will try again with the original disc. |

I'm doing some checks to see if I can find a disc that acts similar to yours. The only one I've found so far was one that was doing animation... and it makes sense in that case because the picture is moved at regular intervals, and I ignore all but the first. You probably processed it previously with a version from before the IGS check was added. |

If I remember correctly though, most DVD's subtitles did use yellow color. But this can be a distraction, so white would be less obtrusive. |

@Capsbackup: most dvd's use yellow ? Not in my region. They're all white with the occasional yellow but i find yellow damn annoying. I loved Avatar (though in blu-ray) but if there's 1 thing i hated it was those yellow subs. BTW the reason your HP5 is failing now is because of that IGS stream code jdobbs added in 34.04.
That being said, bring on the next version so i can finally resize it. Oh and while you're at it, throw DTS-E processing in it too |

@setarip: that i won't deny. White letters that disappear in the movie is another thing i hate. On those occasions i wouldn't mind if the letters were given a stronger border, or shade or even such a seethrough bar in case the subs cover the opening credits wich is often done. But yellow i personally find that a bit extreme.

I may be able to add in another hidden setting that allows you to set your own low/mid/high intensity colors for the subtitles -- but frankly I tried a bunch of them, and the ones I'm using now are about as good as it gets. For subtitles that can always be read -- you can choose a non-transparent background using the DVD_SUB_BACKGROUND hidden option. I've given two options, black and dark blue. forgive me jdobbs, i was just discussing the subtitle color wich is beyond the purpose of this thread. Sorry about that. Don't go out of your way to add more tweaks. For me its not necessairy. I only do full disc BD25 backups. For DVD backups i get the DVD itself.

@jdobbs, I tested DVD output mode, everything works fine (The Town and RED), but I found that DVD compliant audio tracks (AC3 > 448 Kbps) are being re-encoded, which reduces sound quality and sometimes increases file size a little (from AC3 384/192 Kbps to 448/224 Kbps).

As for the 224Kbs... yeah 192Kbs is probably more common, but due to an anomaly in blu-ray muxing they take the same amount of space. As for "reduces sound quality" -- I'd like to know how increasing bitrate ever decreases quality? All blu-ray to DVD 5.1 conversions reencode to 448Kbs, because 640Kbs (the overwhelming standard in blu-ray) violates the DVD spec. Last edited by jdobbs; 25th April 2011 at 04:39. |
