Shop4tech still says these Primedisc's are Ritek

http://www.shop4tech.com/user.htm?go...ta=1&s_cata=88

They're not Ritek. I bought these and they're some brand i've never heard of. ADVDinfo reports something other than Ritek

Yep, you've discovered the only problem I've ever had with Shop4tech. The single pack and 25 pack of PrimeDiscs are NOT Riteks, but AUVISTAR's. They claim they are Ritek's, but they're not. So, I'm now only ordering Ritek's 50 or 100, since that's what the 50 and 100 pack PrimeDisc's are anyway. They just don't offer a 25 pack of Riteks. Other vendors do.

Get this -

I purchased 2 100 packs of "TDK" . Well guess what? They where white topped with no "TDK" logo to be found other than the one they printed to go on the cake box!

When I tried to burn with them , they would burn at x2 but failed totally in my desktop player ( whereis true silver TDK's are at a 100% ) . I also tried in my xbox and ps2 -- No joy.

After burning about 10 of these and all failing, I went ahead and tried to get an RMA --

Forget it!

They have ignored me for weeks. I paid with a debit card ( like a dumb ass ) , so my protection was almost 0 .

I just ended up selling them on ebay as non-branded x2 and I took a bit of a loss..

Shop4tech was good a few months back...I did a ton of business with them and had no problems, but now FORGET IT. They are deceiving people now.

I will NEVER order from them again.

I recently had an interesting deal with Shop4Tech..

I ordered a 50 pack Primedisc + 50 cases from them. I live in canada so selected the $20 USPS shipping option.

3 weeks later, and 3 semi-threatening emails later, still no package and no response to my emails! I basically was saying how disgusted I was with their business, how I would call my credit card company to claim fraud on them and get my money back, and give them bad publicity to other potential shoppers. I even gave them a deadline, which was 3 weeks from my order date to at least respond before I did this. No response.

So the night before my deadline I was fed up, I needed my discs, so I called them up, dumb support lady actually tells me how she's been getting my emails.. I ask why no response to such a rather nasty complaint letter from a customer and their order, "busy" was her basic reply..

She finally puts me on hold, has a chat with manager I guess, comes back and says they will fedex me my package with overnight delivery. I was happy with this. She also said that if I get the other package to return it to them... ya right! This leads me to believe they never actually sent my package out! Either that or they were willing to take a loss..

DVD's got here the next day, so that made me happy again. They were in fact Ritek G3's.. silver top, dark purple bottom, can't try them at 2x since I'm stuck at 1.33 firmware. But they work sweet, they work on the pesky Samsung and other players that my previous white top Princo's wouldn't work on, and even ones where my Verbatim RW won't work.

I like the quality and price in the discs, and impressed how they resolved the situation. But I am not too eager to order from there again in fear that I will have to go thru this again..

After my experience, I would say its more like they are jamming people with super generic's and are printing TDK labels to put on the cake box --

This is just plain dishonest -

Its like going to the gas station and paying for 93 octane, but they are really pumping 87 into your ride.

I too have just experienced the TDK Switcheroo from Shop4Tech! Curiously, ADVDInfo reports the exact same ID on these lousy white-tops as the previously great silvertops that have "TDK" stamped around the rim. (???)

white top:

00 42 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 50 00 02 98 0C 13 .B...@....P.....
76 78 80 00 03 54 44 4B 47 30 32 00 04 30 30 30 VX...TDKG02..000
30 30 30 00 05 88 80 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 000.............
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................

silver top:

00 42 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 50 00 02 98 0C 13 .B...@....P.....
76 78 80 00 03 54 44 4B 47 30 32 00 04 30 30 30 VX...TDKG02..000
30 30 30 00 05 88 80 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 000.............
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................

And talonz, you are right - that label on the cakebox looks so homemade.

I called Shop4Tech today and received a RA# - I'll keep you all posted as to whether they credit my PayPal account or not.

I never did get an RMA ...

Thats why I just sold them on ebay - I simply don't trust them now - I would be afraid of sending the product back first before getting new ones in hand.

Even if you eventually did get the replacements, it could take many weeks.

Good luck

Ouch! Looks like Shop4Tech is going downhill quickly. It's a shame. In the past, they've been really good with shipment and price. But if they are going to continue to pass off one product for another, that's too much.

I've standardized on Riteks (G3) and they've always had a good price w/free shipping. I think I'm going to have to look for other source, althought they haven't do the switch on me - doesn't mean they won't.

Forget Shop4tech definitely.

I ordered 25 riteks in JULY (yes you read july..) and they charged my credit card, but never deliver anything.
Emails, online message, faxes, even call (but from France quite expensive to hear 20 min of bad waiting electronic music)

Now, end November : same state.

and the worst : the online status gives my order "on process" !

"forget this vendor" will be definitively my word on Shop4tech.

BTW, was anybody in Europe able to find a good deal on Ritek ?
I never found a single one, at least under 8 usd/unit...

So far I've had a lot of success with RIMA.COM but I don't know if they'll deliver to europe.

I just got a 25 pack spindle of Ritek's for a buck a piece.

Allmediaoutlet.com has good prices on Ritek G3's (and with cases). I bought 100 and they all worked fine. Also test ordered 25 Riteks from Supermediastore with no problems. And, like atreides93, had no problem with Rima.com

I have bought the 25 pack of Prime Discs and 100 packs of Prime Discs... The 100 pack are Ritek ( Silver Top ), but the 25 pack are different ( Branded Prime Disc ) Not sure what the difference is, but I've used both with no problems..

For those who don't know Auvistar:

I've burned 6 CD-R of them some years ago. One is still readable. It's terrible crap media which you should avoid...

I just ordered the fourth 100 pack of Ritek in several months from Shop4Tech and had no trouble. Ships the next day. Have UPS tracking number and should receive them soon. Maybe it is because I am in AZ right next door?

I just received a 25 pack of retail PrimeDisc's. (http://www.shop4tech.com/user.htm?go...ta=1&s_cata=88) These discs use to have a nice frosting on the top with "PrimeDisc" etched in and lines for you
to write on. These discs have been replaced with standard Ritek G3s with silver tops. Of course the discs still work fine, but I preferred the nice frosted tops. Just an FYI for anyone who is expecting the old kind.
