AC3, Surround and DVD questions.

I did as much research as i could, but i still have some questions.

First off, what exactly is AC3?
I know that it contains 5 audio channels, but, if i have a DVD
movie with AC3 sound, would i be able to hear it in surround sound?
(aka... with 5 speakers)

Also, i've read guides here for converting Stereo to Surround,
AC3 to surround and such, but the main question is:
How do i insert that surround sound back to the movie?
Is there a muxer for that?

And lastly, anyone can give some good advice as to how to do
a good convertion to surround sound, i mean, how to do it and
what settings to use.

I've read that each sound channel has to be encoded differently.

Please post anything that can help.
Thanks

Since you seem determined to challenge my moderation, you may challenge the rule 11 strike I just issued.

@Skelsgard:
I think you should be more considerate to others,
you weren't as knowledgeable as you are now,
and you should know better, for you were a noob before

@neuron2:
Thanks for helping out, it is good to see good mod quality around
here

@raquete:

I've read the article in Wikipedia, it was very informative.
And also, i appreciate the help you give.

Please keep it up, as others benefit from this info as well

Kudos

It stroke me as odd to see someone who has been a member as long as u are and with your amount of posts to ask something like that. Like I said to neuron2, track my posts and uŽll see the respect I have always shown towards all members in this community (new and old) and the extent my posts have reached in order to provide as much and as useful info as possible (as I needed myself when I was starting, like u said).
In face-to-face conversation, those simple 4 words would have had the intended tone and your most probable answer would have been a simple "No, why?". But is not the way it happened so something intrascendental became an "issue".
I think these posts will help u create a more funded opinion on my posting nature:

These threads can actually also help u about AC3 encoding.
And this one :

See u around (if u still want the help ).

Mmm, it stroke me as odd as well, given your so called reputation,
that you decided to reply that way!

Evidently, it seems that this rule didn't apply in this case.
You didn't even make an effort to apologize for your rude comment,
instead, you try to justify your actions by using your seniority.

No harm done, but, i think this could serve you as a wake up call.
Maybe you need to re-evaluate where you stand.

Other than that, i read all the threads that you posted, and
you are right, they contain very useful information.

Thanks for that
