Problems with joining 2 avi's

I have a problem joing two avi files in VirtualDub because those two have different bit-rates, them being MP3 VBR. What I was thinking was to re-encode both video's audio stream to AAC, so I tried to download CoreAAC codec so I could use it in VirtualDub, but it does not show up in the audio codecs list (happened with LameMP3 before). So, now I would like to ask two questions:
Is there a better alternative to re-encode the audio stream? If not, then can somebody help me fix the issue with VirtualDub?

VirtualDub don't support encode audio to AAC, encode to MP3 CBR.

I would rather avoid using MP3 ^_^

I suppose that there is another program that can help me with this task.

@andy_blah

Hi!

I'd suggest that you go back to the original source material, that you used to create the two .AVI, and create two new .AVIs, using identical video and audio formats and settings...

May I ask why you created them with different audio settings, if you intended to join them?

VirtualDub cannot export .mkv for a start...

I don't have the original video unfortunately, and I did not encode those result videos either, they were made by a friend, that does not know that it is better to use CBR v.v

One option is to use avidemux, which supports .mkv and .aac

If you don't want to use cbr mp3, then don't use vdub. Vdub doesn't support aac, there is no working aac acm (you need acm versions to work in vdub). The other option is to use AC3 (there is a working AC3 ACM, so you can use it in vdub)

@[P]ako: Report the post, if you think there is a rule violation, and let the moderators handle these issues.

Anyway, I don't see anything wrong here.

Yes, there's nothing to suggest that OP is talking about copyrighted materials, so it appears OK.

@andy_blah

Since its been determined by two moderators that it's okay to proceed with this thread, would you please be good enough to load each of the two .AVIs into GSpot and post screen captures back here?

Ok.

I'm with tebasuna51, make a MKV. Since you don't know how the videos were encoded, or if they were parts of a bigger file. Anyway. There may be an audio delay set and if you do transcode the audio and join the videos, you may end up with sync issues. Making a MKV is rather simple, get MKVToolnix, install it, open it, add both videos, mux. MKVmerge will take care of everything.
