New anti-ARccOS plugin for PgcEdit
See here. Written by The Mad Monk.
A little plugin for PgcEdit which analyse the IFOs of ARccOS protected DVDs, and guides you through making a PSL2 automatically and then helps cleanup the cell structure afterwards. Works like a charm. Regards

on a slight tangent here, but have you encountered any arccos discs downunder? it's a while since i actually sat down and watched a DVD (i've bought a few lately - they're all still shrink-wrapped), but i haven't found any yet.

Just a couple, Hitch and Closer (I think). As it turns out, they used the scheme which DVD Decrypter decrypted easily.
Obviously, this plugin is for those ARccOS disks released after development of DVD Decrypter ceased. Regards

This looks promising.
Is this plugin an "intelligent" program, able to cope with any new .IFO coding, applying thusfar unused .IFO commands that SONY may choose to use or, is it "hardwired" to specifically deal only with those commands that have been used thusfar (up to and including the protection used on "Lords of Dogtown")? It handes before and after.
The plugin is commented so you can see exactly how it works. Nothing can predict the future way in which companies try to manipulate their IFOs. The way it works it to follow the various jumps in the cells commands from the entry point of the title (usually cell 1 but it doesn't have to be). The various cell commands are analysed and eventually you get to a cell that that plays on. This way the ARccOS cells can be identified. PSL2 is made accordingly. Regards

I thought the arccos cells were actually unreferenced at all (i.e., never referenced in any of the PGC cells)! If that's the case the plugin wouldn't need to follow the navigation. But I suppose sony perfected it so the cell appears to be reference, but by a PGC cell that actually never ever plays... Is that the case?

no, I think these were merely fixes for bugs that were revealed by the specific DVDs. The technique should work with any arccos protected DVD, as long as the same protection technique is used (very primitive indeed). The plugin only helps you create the PSL2 file...

Gents,
First, I am not the author. The plugin is commented. Follow it through. @jeanl - the cells are referenced but don't play. Pick an ARccOS disk in your collection and trace through the structure. What happens is you enter the title (always at cell 1 so far, but it doesn't have to be of course), play that cell (a legit 10 framer), follow a cell command which usually looks something stupid like: Code:
if gprm(3) == gprm(3) LinkCN ## The plugin is intelligent enough to figure out what cells are the ARccOS ones from there and then builds a PSL2 using recent development work carried on around the place. Afterwards, you get rid of the ARccOS cells from the cell table (Remove Crap) and you are left with a DVD that looks and plays precisely like they all did a year or so ago. Regards

The Lord of Dogtowns is a new ARccOS version. It works different than the older ARccOS released DVDs.
During the creation/beta testing of this tools - Closer was used. But as the above title needed a new approach - there where the need for an update of the plugin. |

I have just analyzed the code. Seems the plugin is able to deal with all cell commands you may encounter in future ARccOS versions. But IMO, there are still some gaps in the way it handles some things. To be able to cope with all future protections, there are still some things to do. But I don't want to explain them here. Sony may be interested, too!

@CoNS - my strong understanding is that if new things come out, the plugin will be updated. Already in a week there have been 4 enhancements.
And yes, there are some areas that are not quite 100% but really only in cases not yet seen. The idea to get a very quick and easy way to make a PSL2 file. So far, it works. In effect, we are the Beta testers for it. Get your ARccOS disks out and test it. Report back any problems. I'm sure TMM will read them. Regards

The IFOs are used, and they're not encrypted. The plugin does not use the VOBs (which couldn't be decrypted)... EDIT: sorry, I meant "couldn't be ripped"

In fact, (as I described in another thread) using Region 1 "Lords of Dogtown - EC" as the example, with DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4 (In "File" mode, set to "ALL files") set to -0- "Software read retries" and a checkmark next to "Ignore read errors" - after about 5 hours of of "grinding it out", you'll have a perfectly usable DVD "package".of .IFOs, .BUPs, and .VOBs. This "package" is accepted for input by both DVD Shrink and DVD95Copy (DVD2One complains about "improper" .IFOs) - and does NOT require creation of a PSL2 file or having to rip the DVD a second time with a PSL2 file... |

That's true. But 5 hours (and it may takes upto 12 hours with some drives, and Sony may even increase the number of read errors), to finally have a non-standard VOB, that's not what I call a successful rip. Hence the utility of the PSL file, and of the plugin.
