New version of compressed help (CHM) AvisynthEngSDK26_FINAL-2015-05-31.chm,
as for Avisynth v2.6 FINAL as released today.
See 1st post. (available on MediaFire below in sig, DATA directory), or direct link here:- http://www.mediafire.com/download/g0...2015-05-31.zip

No reasonable/sane person would continue to use v2.58 now.

EDIT: Avisynth v2.6 FINAL as released today on SourceForge:- http://sourceforge.net/projects/avis...Synth%202.6.0/

Thanks! A tip for people who can't open such files (like me ). You need to unlock them: right-click file > properties > unlock (works for XP/Win7).

A couple other things you can do is use a downloader program which Windows doesn't apply the security feature to block downloaded files.

The other thing you can do is figure out how to google this accurately to prevent each new downloaded file to not have the "unlock" button.
There's several sites that concern this but their wording convention makes it extremely difficult to follow.
Naturally, this could pose as a security risk if you share your computer with anyone else.

A couple hits that may be related.
TBH, it's annoying as ever to have this feature.
I even have UAC completely disabled and just an external downloader program.

Maybe pack it into an archive; the extracted CHM won't be locked...

Thanx guys, here again as zip file (did previously try with 7zip and file got bigger, strangely enough Winzip makes it a bit smaller [7z usually better]).

^ That was for RC1 (2015-01-15), not final (2015-05-31)...

Regarding 7-zip, it may depend on the method used for compression: LZMA is single-threaded / LZMA2 is multithreaded, thus faster, but maybe less efficient / PPMd is different, sometimes preferable for texts.
__

Funny, in this case, LZMA2 wins, so it seems to be not only speed but also efficiency optimized as multi-threaded algorithm (using 7-zip 9.38 beta, "Maximum" preset):

LZMA2 = 4,739 KB
BZip2 = 4,754 KB
CHM = 4,765 KB
LZMA = 4,797 KB
PPMd = 4,819 KB

Compressing already compressed data is hardly predictable, to some degree; at least it is quite certain that algorithms relying on recurrent patterns (e.g. more probable syllables) are not very efficient on already compressed data, it is too random.

Thank you Ligh, I somehow managed to delete the wrong one and had to re-download from mediafire trash,
all links fixed.

EDIT: My "NON-INSTALL" directory (holds all portable non-install programs [100+ eg MeGUI, Vdub], for easy transport to other systems or new install),
compresses via WinZip to about 950MB, via 7zip to ~570MB, 7zip can sometimes be much better.
NON-INSTALL Also contains another NON-INSTALL-SHORTCUTS/NON-INSTALL which is transplanted into my "All Users\Start Menu\Programs\"
directory, so with two copies, I have 100+ programs installed including any hotkeys (needs reboot).
The Avisynth & SDK CHM lives in it's own directory in NON-INSTALL with a Start Menu shortcut hotkey on CTRL/ALT/H.

Just checked the *.chm, ie compressed Html file, works just fine on Windows 7 Pro(x64) and Windows 10 Home(x86) without any additional
WinHelp32 tools.
EDIT: If you have problem accessing the chm, try looking at its Properties and if it says something like,
"This file came from another computer and is blocked", tick "UnBlock" and it should be OK (windows Paranoia)..

In addition to the normal html source, also has a table of all source files inside the chm, so that you can visit each one in sequence and know for sure
that you have read the whole thing. (instead of going around and around in circles trying to find links that you may have missed).
[Several files are normally accessible only via a link from another page, and do not appear in contents, so if you missed the link then you may have no idea that the file exists, so the file table is quite handy (I dont remember offhand which files).]

Below image showing the files table, get to it via menu bar "Show", and select contents tab. [You may also have to click Locate]

You may be able to eg copy link to desktop and set a HotKey via the shortcut Properties, I use CTRL/ALT/H.

For Developers, chm also includes the Avisynth(standard) VERSION 6 header, + the Avisynth v2.58 VERSION 3 header + the
C header avisynth_c.h.
EDIT: I think that above headers are only available via the table of source files (not sure).
EDIT: The v2.58 header is useful even today as it has the 'Baked Code' source rather than pointer to function as in v6 header.
