Creating a video that doesn't start playing from beginning

Hello people, this is my first official post here. Yay.

I need to do something with a video that can be considered as "tweaking", and I need your advice on most suitable container formats and software to accomplish that task. The end result should be the video of (let's say) 65 minutes, that always starts playing at, say, 7th minute but can still be manually played from the beginning by moving the "slider" in media player to that position. It would be the best if that is possible with .AVI, but other (common) containers are fine too. I know how to do this when authoring a DVD, but unfortunatelly can't use DVD this time. So, which way to go here - AVI header/keyfile list tweaking, or perhaps chapters, and which software to use. Thanx a lot for help (and sorry if I missed some forum topic on this).
