I got it to outclass the previous IQ and just smoothness. I am glad I did the change for sure...and glad I dont have a wife so I can spend hours drooling on my setup
I am currently not using Powerstrip but the Nvidia contro panel to create a custom 47.952 resolution and when pressing CTRL+J I see it showing 47.950 so I think that is decently close.
I think I had the settings as letting my projector downsize the image (720p Infocus 7210) because from previous tests sending a 720p image instead of 1080p actually gave me less detail than letting the projector downconvert. This was tested with a 50mm prime lense taking samples images to make sure it was not a placebo.
So all in all, I am very happy and for $55 for a used gts450, I cannot complain about it.
Have you tried CUVID? LAV-filters supports it and it would be better than pale software or DXVA copy-back... Forget about CCC, I assumed you were using AMD-card Have you checked that nVidia is set to Full-RGB 4:4:4? I have heard that GPU must be set to that and in madVR you must check the right RGB-mode (which I think is 16-235 for your projector...)
Remember to trust only to your eyes, so is up to you which settings and resolution you find the best with your equipment

If it's Full-RGB, shouldn't he set the projector to 0-255?

Someone really made a 10-bit interlaced file?
Those people should be shot, quartered and hanged, not necessarily in that order.

That i can a little bit; Some animes, like Howls Moving Castle, contain songs. Thay use those types for displaying the lyrics as karaoke style, in other font and color at the top of the screen, while in the same time displaying the regular subtitles at the bottom.

see, i thought the idea behind interlaced files was to maintain 25 fps in bluray.

but if they are using 10 bit, so they presumably don't care about bluray...

yea, very confusing.

I am using Cuvid now and it is indeed better than before..so happy I made the change.
Where is that Full RGB 4:4:4 setting? I cannot find it in the Nvidia control panel
Thanks!

IMPORTANT update:
The settings I was using for my projector was intended for DVI/hdmi devices or more specifically devices that are sending video levels (16-235) instead of 0-255 (pc levels). So i guess the idea will be for me NOT so use those settings and have my HTPC send 0-255 trying to avoid any conversions if possible, right?

So I was able to find the 0-255 option in the Adjust Video Settings section of the Nvidia control panel BUT I dont see any change at all from 0-255 to 16-235... Shouldnt I be seeing some changes like when changing the MADVR settings in the levels?
I am trying to keep the signal without having it converted back and forth for the cleanest possible image.

Doesn't madVR bypass the nvidia settings?

Yep, AFAIK it's just important that with HDMI you either install the driver with a custom inf or you have to create a custom resolution to get full range.

works great here..
i dont have to set anything in NV Panel..its set to: Use Media Player´s settings..

And its all fine..even when i try to set it to Use NV Driver settings, MadVR overrides it here...

I guess it does because no matter what I change to, only changing in madvr makes a difference.

I just send out a crash report to madsi about opening H264 encoded 2160p content (so called 4K content) : Potplayer or Madvr always crashes for me. (don't know who crashes first, but in the end they are both crashed)

Opening the 2160p content with EVR or EVR-CP or even Haali renderer in PP is OK : files play fluent (software decoding).

Has anyone else tried to open such 4K files in Potplayer with Madvr as renderer ?

PS: i have potplayer v1.5.32852 (dd. 30/03/2012) and Madvr 0.82.5

Disabling "present several frames in advance" fixes black screen for windowed + fullscreen

Hope this helps.

I have the black screen weirdly not as soon as I updated my GTX 580 on Win7 x64 to the driver v296.10 but a few days later, and unfortunately the 2 advices above on the renderer config did not fix anything for me in windowed and FS mode.

Is there another workaround, or do I have to wait for a solution from Madshi or Nvidia ?

And where MadVR leaves the rendering log ?

The "MadVR log" goes to your desktop if that's your question.
About the black screens : do you still have these when you use the
295.73 WHQL drivers for your gtx-580 ?
I never saw any black screens with my gtx-570 using the 295.73 drivers.
As the gtx-570 and your gtx-580 are very similar cards, I suggest to try this driver.

Nvidia Forceware 300 drivers and MadVR

If you want Madvr to work with the latest forceware drivers - 300 series - then you need to uncheck "use separate device for presentation" in the Rendering\General Settings of Madvr or you will get a blank screen
