Help needed with frames dropping
Hi,
I am trying to convert After The Sunset R1 NTSC and is having problem with one of the VTS which is having same VOB IDs. DIF4U correctly unchecks the duplicate VOB IDS. The VTS is detected as Progressive 16:9. I use Scenaid 1.6 to create the ccedata file and then use BatchEncodeM2V to encode. Then Scenaid run Scenarist 2.7 and the movie is authored with BatchIFOUpdate followed by ImgToolClasics. If I play this ISO file by loading into Deamon Tools and using WinDVD as a software player, everything plays fine. But when I burn this ISO using NERO and play it on my standalone player the VTS5 having duplicate VOB IDs (Delete Scenes) plays with jurks. As if the player is skipping frames while it is playing. Does anyone know why this is happening? I checked in the Scenarist and the VTS5 is set to drop frame. In fact, all the VTS's in this movie are set to drop frame although DIF4U names some of the PGCs in other VTS (not VTS5) with nopull Interlaced. Shouldn't these by set to non-drop frame? But then these VTS are playing fine. I don't know how to check the framerate and drop frame setting using IFOEdit so I cannot check what's the setting in the original movie which plays fine on the standalone as well as using WinDVD 6. -Amit |

Drop frame an pulldown are different things. drop frame is just a way of keeping time for ntsc. it doesnt change the actual encoding, just what time stamps are placed. non-drop frame seemed to cause sync problems with subs so drop frame was chosen long ago for big 3.
pulldown is used on FILM assets (23.976 fps) and just adds flags so that it seems to be 29.97fps.. drop frame can be applied to 23.976 fps or 29.97 fps. the jerkiness could be wrong field order if the jerkiness is sustained in playback.. can you paste your avs script , paste the .d2v, (or at least 50 lines or so ), paste the .ecl .. also whats the .avs filename.

This confussion over the term "drop-frame" reminds me of the book title "Mother is half a word" (disclosing the other half is beyond the scope of this forum). "Drop-frame" is half a term, the full term is "drop-frame timecode". It is a type of timecode, that's all - no frames were injured in the process.

you posted info for vts04... is it vts 04 that is causing the problem? ( i ask because you mention vts 05 in your first post) the d2v is straight film( at least the portion you posted). field dominance shouldnt be an issue. it is jerky throughout the whole playback for that vts? or is it just at certain points?

@Trahald,
I am sorry, my mistake. I specified the wrong VTS in the original post. Its the VTS 4 that is giving me the problem. Except VTS 4 all other VTS play fine. VTS 4 plays fine on computer. Even playing M2V on computer plays fine. VTS 4 plays jerky completly on my standalone. Here's the log from BatchEncodeM2V 23:10:27 "C:\Program Files\BatchEncodeM2V\cceroba.exe" -ecl "f:\after_the_sunset\vts04\vts__04_p01.p.16~9_1.avs.temp.AVS.ecl" 23:35:10 Process Closed 23:35:10 Remaining Space = 48214 MB 23:35:10 Starting 3:2 Pulldown 23:35:10 Field count is even 23:35:10 Remaining Space = 48214 MB 23:35:10 "C:\Program Files\BatchEncodeM2V\revpulldown.exe" "f:\after_the_sunset\vts04\vts__04_p01.p.16~9_1.mpv" "f:\after_the_sunset\vts04\vts__04_p01.p.16~9_1.mpv.m2v" -3_2 -drop_frame true -removesequenceendcode 23:36:03 Pulldown Executable Complete 23:36:04 Remaining Space = 47971 MB -Amit |
