MakeMKV - Significant addition

Just announced at the MakeMKV website. The following should make MakeMKV that much more useful to those of us who use the program for not only its onestep-to-MKV conversion capability but its BluRay-related capabilities as well:

Quote:
MakeMKV can make a disc backup with decrypted M2TS files. This is equal to "remove AACS and BD+" in your favorite ripper.
It can also generate a non-decrypted BluRay disc backup.

Additionally, both the decrypted and undecrypted BluRay disc "packages" are generated in a way that allows for subsequently converting them to MKVs, should you choose to do so.

This appears to be another step in "levelling the playing field" by providing us, the users, with alternative means to accomplish our BluRay-related goals ;>}

@Running Skittle

I didn't forget. I'm sure that's something worth talking about, but I try (I don't always succeed) to only post what is significant to me personally - and, in this instance, that is aspects of MakeMKV that make the BluRay copy/compression/conversion arena more competitive, which will certainly benefit all users...

Tested - It works

I don't know if anyone else has tested/tried MakeMKV's newly added FULL disc copy capability, so let me be the first to post my findings:

I've used the new FULL disc backup capability (decrypted) of MakeMKV to successfully make fully playable (menus, main movie, extras) versions of the (U.S.) BluRay discs "Precious" and "Planet 51".

BTW - BD Rebuilder properly processed these, both as full discs and "movies-only".

I have tried the backup option and found

1. Using the console "$>makemkvcon backup disc:0 ./BD_NAME" does NOT decrypt the disc/m2ts.
2. Using the gui to open the disc and choosing decrypt DOES decrypt it successfully for use as a full backup.

I haven't looked through the GUI source yet to determine what flag is required (if any available) to perform the decrypt via command line.

@Jagaer

Just email the author/publisher at the MakeMKV website - or post it as a question at the MakeMKV forum...

Boy, talk about exaggeration! Of my total posts at Doom9, you could probably count the "go to the author/forum" posts without removing your shoes ;>}

The few times I've suggested either communicating directly with any program's author/publisher or posting to a product-specific forum, it's been for the simple reason that, in those few instances it was apparent that those were the places where the most meaningful answers could be obtained.

Not any more than I work for multiAVCHD, BDRebuilder, DVD95Copy, AVCHDCoder, or several others - all of which I find personally useful and, therefore, try to support with knowledge.

My grandkids know who I "work" for ;>}

You need to use --decrypt on command line. All options are at http://www.makemkv.com/developers/usage.txt .
