Needed : help with translating subtitles from English
Hi,
for the next matroska sample file we are planning a few nasty things, to show the 'power' of this container .... I am currently working on a new version of my Starwars EP2 sniplet, but as my provider was indicating to my that my last sample file ( 10 MB ) created about 16 GB of traffic ( about 1600 downloads ), i am starting to get concerned about copyright problems, even if its a sniplet only. There is this nasty Matrix Reloaded trailer in a 1000 x 540 resolution on the official matrix Homepage, but its in Quicktime, Stereo only and also one language ( english ) ..... and of course, without subs .... My question to you : Does anybody know of a hi-quality trailer on DVD ( i will buy it ), with a sharp picture, AC3 or DTS sound, preferably 2 or more languages, and also some subtitles ? We have contact with a lot of people around the world, from Japan to Russia, and i am sure these people would help us translate the subs into their language, i just need some language subtitles track to start from ( preferabley english, french, german or spanish ), so we can translate this one subs track into several different languages. Any recommendations are highly appreciated Christian Last edited by ChristianHJW; 22nd June 2003 at 15:55. |

With any trailer you will have copyright problems, just ask the publisher (movie company) nicely in the way you so adeptly can . Don't ask any publisher that is associated with DRM/DMCA stuff though, because any snail can understand what matroska is going to be used for, and that although it also promotes their movie, it promotes piracy .

I have yet to see any DVD that has more than 2 languages for a trailer, in fact, even when the DVD contains 5 languages you'll be lucky if the trailer audio is available in anything but one language.

Well, of course it'll still have only one audio track (THANK GOD - dubbing SUCKS), but at least it'll be 5.1 vorbis (it already is ), and with loads of subtitles, of which English, Dutch, German and Russian are already done . The video has also been encoded, the file will be about 40MB. I hope that's satisfying for all of you, comparing to quicktime:
Quicktime & Crappy stereo audio - 640x346 - 59MB XviD & 5.1 Ogg - 768x576 anamorphic - 40MB (video 1st pass size 56MB) And no, that's not a lame comparison as most companies make; it's the hard proven truth . |

Help !!
For the sample file that mf described above we need more translations of the english subtitles still. As mf said above, we have currently English German Dutch Japanese Russian Ukranian Finnish Portugese done, but we desperately need at least one Asian language also. Dont worry, the trailer is only 2 mins and we are talking about max. 30 lines to translate. The english source is here Please, email me the translation as soon as its finished to christian at matroska dot org , and put a small announcement that you have finished it here, so that no double work is done. Thanks for your help !! EDIT : mf is currently suspended, so he said i should announce here that everybody translating will be mentioned in the credits page also ..
