I haven't really tested either recently, but in the past I did find CT better than Nero in some situations (low-bitrate dialog, in particular). I have no idea whether Nero's issue with that is now resolved, but I think that it would be good to support CT anyway, just for reasons of choice. I haven't yet voted either way in the poll, because I generally keep the original audio tracks.
I think you should support Nero AAC, then Vorbis, and only after that should you support CT (if you are still interested). |

I use the very recent .dlls of the CT's HE-AAC v2 (=SBR+PS) encoder(from Winamp v5.1 free bundle edition) with MediaCoder(in the first place, I convert the .AC3/.MP2 track(s) to 44.1 KHz Stereo PCM Wave with BeSweet) because Nero's old encoder(the CLI or Nero 7's .dlls used by The OagMachine) can give me bad audio quality(distorsions, echoes, and so on... great isn't it ?).
So I don't need it to be available in MeGUI, but other people might not want to use an "external" AAC encoder.

1. Excelent for stereo encoding
2. Excelent for multichannel encodig 3. In my test's i think that nero's 2pass again not have better quality than CT but is useful for saving space. 4. Very fast encoder comparing to nero 5. Free Did i must say anything else, btw dimzon did you think that nero encoder will be free forever. Aslo this oggenc2 is very amazing for lowrates and multichannel. Quote:

No, I've just updated to MediaCoder 0.3.9 and winamp v5.21, and copied enc_aacplus.dll from winamp's plugns to Mediacoder\plugins. Hope it will be even better. ^^

And I really doesn't think it's possible any significant quality improvements for HE-AAC (except multichannel HE-AAC). Seems like current HE-AAC implementations is extreme close to HE-AAC theoretical/mathematical limit...

OK but you must say that HE-AAC and multichannel is now best solution for 1cd rips, if we want keep 5.1, which is 100% supported by standalone players in near future.
I think that Nero make free encoder because he want a first place in aac encoders and catch more customers, but there is one limitation over encoder, 2pass and stdin. Maybe i wrong but i think, when new nero encoder came out this feature not be implemented but in nero app's will be. I again say maybe i wrong but we see. |

Mediacoder is open-source(as is faac), hosted on Sourcefourge, and all the latest plugins and .dll files are installed with it.
So it's also "guaranteed to remain freely available".
