.hack//SIGN - Volume 1 (Region 1) Cheat Sheet
.hack//Sign Volume One [Region 1]
Courtesy of 2CL ******* UPDATES *************** 8/26/03 - Edits shown in GREEN In Step 15. 8/27/03 - Steps 8 to 15 have been updated. Step 9 has a totally new step. 8/27/03 - Added Steps 16 and 17 to fix subtitles showing when English and Subs Off are clicked on initially in Setup menu. Following steps renumbered accordingly. ******************************* I was a little bored at this time and just wanted to write a learning cheat sheet on the first volume of a cool Anime Series. Great soundtrack too. Also, it's good reading material for you folks who want to know how I went about backing this DVD up. There are some new tips within that I haven’t done any informational guides yet. You might learn something new. Pretty impressed on how my quality turned out. Tools I used DVD Decrypter in File Mode IFOedit 0.95 DVD Shrink 3.0 beta 5 MenuEdit 2.1.1 (registered) Optional but it does clean up the menus of used buttons. __________________________________________________________ 1. Create a folder named “Hack Vol 1” and a subfolder named “Files”. __________________________________________________________ 2. Using DVD Decrypter in file mode, rip all files to your “Hack Vol 1” folder. __________________________________________________________ 3. Open Video_TS.IFO with IFOedit and press “Get VTS Sectors” buttons to load other IFOs. Note: I didn’t get any errors detect but I do this out of habit. __________________________________________________________ 4. Backup all IFOs to “Files” subfolder. It’s a good practice to backup your original files prior to editing. In case you mess up, you can always copy over your original files over your badly edited one and then press your “Get VTS Sectors” button to refresh data in IFOedit. __________________________________________________________ 5. Bypassing Unwanted Stuff Prior to Main Menu Go to VIDEO_TS.IFO / VMGM_MAT / First Play PGC / PGC Command Table. Edit Pre Command #4 with new command by right clicking on line and selecting “Edit Command”. Select “(JumpSS_VTSM) Jump to Titleset Menu” with Title Nr.: 1, TitleSet Nr.: 1, and Menu: root. OLD > 4.Pre Command (JumpTT) Jump to Title: 1..........................................[30 02 00 00 00 01 00 00] NEW > 4.Pre Command (JumpSS VTSM) Jump to TitleSet(vts): 1, Title(ttn): 1, root-menu...[30 06 00 01 01 83 00 00] __________________________________________________________ 6. Save VIDEO_TS.IFO and .BUP __________________________________________________________ 7. Fixing the Extras Menu What bothers me in the Extras menu is that when you select to play any the selections it would jump back to the Main Menu after playing. I wanted to remain in the Extras Menu until I’m done with it. Looks like poor authoring to me. Anyway, let’s fix that. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 7a. Configuring Extras Menu as our Angle Menu Just like the previous Optional step, we’re going to set another menu as our Angle Menu. Go to VTS_01_0.IFO / VTSM_PGCI_UT / [LU 1] Menu's: and edit as follows. OLD > Menu_24: VTSM_PGC Category Menu mask...0 NEW > Menu_24: VTSM_PGC Category Menu mask...134 Now if you go to this IF0’s / VTS Overview / Language Menu Unit, you’ll see that Menu_24 is now configured as our Angle Menu. How did I know that Menu_24 is our Extras Menu? I used DVDShrink to view the menus. There are only 4 Extras selection that jump back to the Main Menu when done playing. They are... 1) Textless opening 2) Textless Ending 3) .hack Video Game Trailer (We're going to disable this button later on in Step 12. 4) Trailers (There is a submenu that has three trailers that jump to main menu when done but we’re not going to mess with them separately. We’ll just disable the Trailer button entirely later on in Step 11. Here’s the edits for the the first two. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 7b. Extras Menu Displaying After Textless Opening Play Go to VIDEO_TS.IFO / VMGM_PGCI_UT / PGC-Menu_20 / PGC Command Table. Edit Pre Command #3 as follows. Right click and select “Edit Command”. Select “(JumpSS_VTSM) Jump to Titleset Menu” with Title Nr.: 1, TitleSet Nr.: 1, and Menu: angle. OLD > 3.Pre Command (JumpTT) Jump to Title: 2...........................................[30 02 00 00 00 02 00 00] NEW > 3.Pre Command (JumpSS VTSM) Jump to TitleSet(vts): 1, Title(ttn): 1, angle-menu...[30 06 00 01 01 86 00 00] Details: How did I know that I had to edit PGC-Menu_20 for Text Opening clip? This clip is Title 15 and located in VTS_15_0.IFO. I went to that IFO’s / VTS_PGCITI / PGC-Menu_1 / PGC Command Table and looked at it’s Post Commands. “VMG PGC: 20” is translated as Video Manager PGC-Menu_20. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 7c. Save IFO and BUP. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 7d. Extras Menu Displaying After Textless Ending Play Repeat Step 7b & 7c with VTS_16_0.IFO. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ That’s it for these two Extras. Test if you want. __________________________________________________________ DVD Title Information I just wanted to provide some Title Information here. Our DVD is still too big so we’ll be setting a couple of Titles as “Still Pictures” in DVDShrink later on but I want to do a few edits prior to that. Below, The Titles in RED are the ones we need to be concern about so that our Episodes retain great quality. I selected the Trailers because personally, they take up space and they get old. Title.....Description...................TitleSet Title 1 : 15ms Blank Clip...............VTS_01 Title 2 : 24ms Blank Clip...............VTS_02 Title 3 : FBI Warnings..................VTS_03 Title 4 : Bandai Intro Logo.............VTS_04 Title 5 : Bandai Visual Presents Clip...VTS_05 Title 6 : Dolby Digital Presentation....VTS_06 Title 7 : Kikaider Trailer..............VTS_07 Title 8 : Silent Mobious Trailer........VTS_08 Title 9 : Arjuna Trailer................VTS_09 Title 10: Episode 1.....................VTS_10 Title 11: Episode 2.....................VTS_11 Title 12: Episode 3.....................VTS_12 Title 13: Episode 4.....................VTS_13 Title 14: Episode 5.....................VTS_14 Title 15: Textless Opening..............VTS_15 Title 16: TextLess Ending...............VTS_16 Title 17: Video Game Trailer............VTS_17

8. Transcoding with DVD Shrink
Now, since the DVD is too big, we will have to shrink or transcode it in this case. I used DVD Shrink 3 beta 5 to successfully do this step and below is the settings I have done. Of course, you would have to create a destination folder in this step. I’m not going into details on how to use DVD Shrink but it’s fairly easy to use. DVD Shrink 3.0 beta 5 Full Disk Settings Code:
Size Data (Automatic by Default) DVD Before After ________________________________________________ Menus 159 MB 170 MB Main Movie 4,040 MB 4,116 MB Extras 264 MB 126 MB Unreferenced Material 1 MB 1 MB ________________________________________________ Automatic Total End Size 4,464 MB _______________________________________________ Exact Backup Size on Disk 4.36 GB (4,681,998,336 bytes) Menus Streams Size _____________________________________________________________________ No changes _____________________________________________________________________ Main Movie _____________________________________________________________________ Title 10,11,12,13,14 Video: Automatic 69% 3,776 MB Audio: 2. Correcting Audio After Default is Stripped If you tried to play your movie now, you will get no audio since Japanese was your default audio and is no longer there. We need to fix that so that your English audio is heard. Let’s start with the first episode which is Title 10. In my first posting of this guide, after I did the step below and tested my DVD, I had a slight problem. If I had initially wanted to play my “Isolated Score” in my setup before pressing playing the episodes, I would hear my Audio 1, which is my English with people talking. The Isolated Score feature was just the music soundtrack of the movie. OLD STEP Read but don't do this part. With IFOedit, go to your VTS_10_0.IFO / VTS_PGCITI / VTS_PGC_1 / PGC Command Table. We need to insert a new Pre Command before your Break Command which is Pre Command #10. Right click on Pre Command #10 and select “Insert Command”. You will now have a new Pre Command #10 with a “NOP” command. Right click on Pre Command #10 and select “Edit Command”. Select “(SetSTN) Set Audio Stream Nr” and set the Stream to 1. This corresponds to your 0x81 audio, which is your English language. Your Japanese audio was 0x80. OLD > 10.Pre Command...NOP.............................[00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00] NEW > 10.Pre Command...(SetSTN) Set Audio Stream: 1....[51 00 00 81 00 00 00 00] NEW STEP 9 To correct that, don’t do the old step above. Here’s the new step. This is what your audio setup is before you start editing in your / VTS Overview /
__________________________________________________________ 10. Repeat New step 9 with Titlesets 11,12,13, and 14. Save VTS_*_0.IFOs and .BUPs. __________________________________________________________ Disabling Unused Menu Buttons Since I really don’t want to see my still pictured Trailers, might as well disable the Trailers button. Also too since I had stripped out the Japanese Audio, no sense on having that option in our setup menu to be active. We want to clean up the menu so that if we select to these buttons, you just remain in the same menu. I couldn’t disable the Japanese button in IFOedit but if you selected it, you would still have your English Audio playing. We corrected that in Step 9. So in this step, I’m giving you 2 options on disabling/deleting your buttons.
__________________________________________________________ 11. Disabling Trailers Button in Extras Menu Go to your VTS_01_0.IFO / VTSM_PGCI_UT / PGC-Menu_26 / PGC Command Table. and right-click on your Pre Command #1. Select “Edit Command” and (LinkPGCN) Link PGC off the pulldown menu. Input PGC Nr 24. Remember that PGC-Menu_24 is our Extras Menu and also our Angle Menu OLD > 1.Pre Command...NOP........................[00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00] NEW > 1.Pre Command...(LinkPGCN) Link PGC 24.....[20 04 00 00 00 00 00 18] __________________________________________________________ 12. Disabling .hack Video Game Trailer in Extras Menu Go to VTS_17_0.IFO / VTS_PGCITI / VTS_PGC_1 / PGC Command Table. Hexedit Pre Command 10 as follows. OLD > 10.Pre Command If GPreg<0> == (cmp-val)<1><' then Break..............................[00 a2 00 00 00 01 00 00] NEW > 10.Pre Command If GPreg<0> == (cmp-val)<1> then (LinkPGN) Link Program 4, [button=0] [20 a6 00 00 00 01 00 04] __________________________________________________________ 13. Save VTS_01_0.IFO and .BUP __________________________________________________________ 14. Go to Step 16. __________________________________________________________ 15. Using MenuEdit In this step, I used MenuEdit 2.1.1 which I had registered. This is IMO a great asset to my backup software inventory and it was worth the money. The feature I needed, Jumping to a non deleted button, when deleting a button is only available in the registered version of MenuEdit. Below is the information to which VobIDs and buttons you need to delete since we didn’t keep them. Go to your transcoded DVD folder and open up VTS_01_0.VOB with MenuEdit. Select CellIDs and press your “Edit” button. After you selected “Jump to non deleted button”, press OK and you will be prompted with a point-of-no-return confirmation. If you don’t feel confident, I would highly recommend you backup your VTS_01_0.* files. Setup Menu VobID:12 > CellID: 1 (6 buttons) > Delete button 1 > Jump to non deleted button VobID:13 > CellID: 1 (6 buttons) > Delete button 1 > Jump to non deleted button VobID:14 > CellID: 1 (6 buttons) > Delete button 1 > Jump to non deleted button VobID:15 > CellID: 1 (6 buttons) > Delete button 1 > Jump to non deleted button VobID:16 > CellID: 1 (6 buttons) > Delete button 1 > Jump to non deleted button VobID:17 > CellID: 1 (6 buttons) > Delete button 1 > Jump to non deleted button Extras Menu VobID:18 > CellID: 1 (7 buttons) > Select and delete buttons 3 & 5 > Jump to non deleted button __________________________________________________________ 16. Fixing Subtitles Displaying When English and SubTitles Off Are Clicked On Prior to Episodes I found an error when DVD played upon insert and when English language and SubTitles with Subs off was is selected. If I pressed Play in main menu, my English Subtitles would display. Here's the fix. Go to VTS_01_0.IFO / VTSM_PGCI_UT / PGC-Menu_51 / PGC Command Table. Hexedit Pre Command #12 and #14 as follows. OLD > 12.Pre Command If GPreg<14> == (cmp-val)<0> then Set GPreg<14> mov (set-val)<65>..[71 a0 0e 0e 00 41 00 00] NEW > 12.Pre Command If GPreg<14> == (cmp-val)<0> then Set GPreg<14> mov (set-val)<0>...[71 a0 0e 0e 00 00 00 00] OLD > 14.Pre Command If GPreg<13> == (cmp-val)<1> then Set GPreg<14> mov (set-val)<65>..[71 a0 0d 0e 00 41 00 01] NEW > 14.Pre Command If GPreg<13> == (cmp-val)<1> then Set GPreg<14> mov (set-val)<0>...[71 a0 0d 0e 00 00 00 01] __________________________________________________________ 17. Save VTS_01_0.IFO and BUP __________________________________________________________ 18. Preview and test your backup and if satisfied, burn what works for you. For me, I used ImgTools with Nero’s API.

Another @2COOL super cheatsheet. Make me wish I have the DVD to try it out. Cool NEW tip on configuring the Angle menu, I need to try that out, guess the magic number is 134 huh?. A coupla of 2c notes, sorry cant help it , proves to show I am a faithful reader of your cheatsheets
Note 1: N/A [Shirley, you meant "Repeat step 9'?. Be it a super tool, nothing gain by re-shrinking extra 4,5 times ] Note 2: I think we maybe can get by with MenuEdit 2.1.1 FREE version here. The newer version renumbers the buttons after deleting so you dont get stuck on the deleted script which could give the dreaded 'illegal command' navigation error. Thank you MenuEdit FREE! Again, always backup the original menu VOB, in case I am wrong about this. Cheers. Last edited by voo_doo99; 28th August 2003 at 17:25. |

Oh man, that was awesome. Your sure did alot of work into .hack//SIGN. I merged vol.1 and vol.2 onto a DVD-9 for fun once, but I took way different steps and procedures.
Although I think you shoulda have just reencoded the trailers at a lower quality, or maybe got rid of them all but Arjuna. :P Although I have to ask... maybe I'm misreading, but you cut out the Japanese audio to keep the... the.... DUB? I hope I'm misreading... Anyway, i probably had less steps to just reencode and reauthor everything from scratch identical to the R1! |
