Nero AVC encode problem

I have been encoding my DVDs in ND-ASP fora few months now. I have done several hundred with only a very few amount of problems. About a month ago I started doing some in AVC and I love the quality difference and Size. I really do not mind the encode times either as I have a seperate PC just for this task. However, sometimes the encode does not complete but gives no error. I get a file that is only a couple of MBs instead of a couple of hundred MBs and of course the movie is unplayable. I am using AVC with all other settings at default using a bitrate of 350kbps.
If anybody can help I'd appreciate it.

Yes it might just be ...

I was doing 12 movies at once when this happened and do not know what info might be important for someone to steer me in the right direction to fix it...

This happened to me several times. What causes it is changing the screen resolution during the encode process. May happen while playing games, watching demos, etc.

Ahhhh. That would make sense since I do change rez sometimes when connecting to it from work or from my Family room...

Thanx for the tip, I would much rather have AVC than to go back to ASP...

This happens with some hardware configuration if using overlay and encoding at the same time or using something which locks the directdraw surface.. Doesn't happen with every hardware though.

Anyway, someone is working on this problem.

I tried a couple more encodes last night. 6 original Star Trek episodes. the first 3 came out fine the 4th & 5th were screwed up and the last was fine. Did not even touch the PC during encode...???

It does not appear to be a res change issue on this one.

I am wondering if this is not a bug of the new .16 version because I am getting this problem constantly now and with both ASP & AVC. The file just doesn't complete. The FPS goes down to like .5 stays there for a while. Then moves on to the next file.

This is also happening on BOTH my systems since the upgrade.

What file is this and what is your systems specs? Try disabling the video preview.

if fps goes down but it isn’t giving other problems I would guess that the data stream isn't working properly…

I've done hundreds of encodes, mostly ASP and recently AVC.

Both systems are P4 3.0 socket 478
2x512 Cosair ddr433
Asus P4C800 E-Deluxe Motherboards
One with Raid-5 and the other with Raid-0.
Never any problems like this until installed new version of Recode and the problem is on both machines. It has not happened when only doing one encode at a time. For instance, I did White Noise, Elektra and Funky Monkey. White Noise and Funky Monkey were fine but Elektra was screwed up. I re-ran Elektra seperately and it ran fine. Using the same ripped files on the same system without rebooting.

You left out the most important info: your video cards. Nvidia?
Updated any drivers recently?

ATI All-In-Wonder 9800 Pro, no I haven't updated the drivers in a months. But just did yesterday before the Elektra video failed. Same results.

The other PC is a Radeon 9600 and I haven't updated drivers there in months either...

No other drivers have been updated recently on either PC as these are only used for Nero, Xvid encodes and the one with 9800 AIW is Nero and HTPC (SageTV)

And again: the weird thing is that Elektra failed when encoding with something else, but WORKED fine when encoding by itself?

If there was some kind oif driver conflict or stream coruption, wouldn't it give me the same results under both circumstances?

Is there a way to Disable the Video Preview TOTALLY?

I have the checkbox unchecked but it still shows the video on my secondary monitor. I use overlay with my ATI to view video fullscreen on my hdtv. Could this be the problem? How do I disable Recode from displaying video anywhere?

Hello again there, JohnV. I've been gone a while, I had to move across the country! I've been having what may be a similar problem, so I'll try to give you as much info as I can. Occasionally, but with increasing frequency of late, some of my recoded mp4s wind up not as expected.

Symptoms:
  1. The .mp4 appears to be much too small. The size is consistent with that of an audio-only mp4 of length observed in #3.
  2. No video track appears in playback.
  3. The play time shown in zoomplayer is short wrt the source file. (In this particular example, 46 minutes as opposed to 1 hour) It appears that part of the beginning is missing.

Attempting to list the tracks will crash mp4creator.exe 1.2.5

The output of MP4Box.exe -info is attached below.

Three things have occured since I've noticed this happening with increasing frequency. 1) Video card driver update, 2) Recode version update from NVE-3.1.0.0d package to NVE-3.1.0.7 package, 3) Started playing Neverwinter Nights again.

While I agree that is a messy list of changes to sort through, #3 in particular is consistent with your indication that it may be due to screen mode changes. If I have time later I will run a small test to see if that's indeed the culprit.

Unfortunately I've lost the Recode log for this encode, but I'm sure I'll have another one available soon.

Let me know if this helps.

If this helps as well...

I did an encode of a Star Trek original episode "Arena"
and it came out too small. about 4MB when I set it up to be 175MB
AVC Standard profile.

This was part of a batch of 8 episodes. All the other episodes came out fine. I unplugged the network cable, shutdown everything non-critical. I keep a clean ship since this is my main HTPC.

After the encode was finished I clicked back and deleted all the other seven episodes and then re-ran the Arena episode and it finished fine.

No reboot, Recode was not closed and reopened, did not re-import the Arena episode. Everything else was the same.

I checked that the CPU temp did not spike. and it did not.

I think this must be a bug with the new recode version.

The only other thing I could think of is that I used the reg hack for the 5.1 audio encode volume issue.

I recently re-installed xp (fun right).
Had codecs installed programs back to the way there were.
Now I was ready to start where I left off. I tryed to encode
some wmv files into mp4 with Nero Recode.
Every single time I would get the burn_ndigital.cpp error in the log
file. I tryed everything and was ready to give it. Then I isntalled

Download Windows Media Format 11 Runtime
www.free-codecs.com

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/..._Format_11.htm

After installing this, the burn_ndigital.cpp error code was gone and I was finally able to once again Rencode

Give it a try. Hopefully this will also work for you.
