They are not really conflicting.

If you get a good batch => works
If you get a bad batch => coasters

I agree.

Specifically in one shop, I always got faulty Princo's in the spindles: the writing surface had been damaged during the production process. I had to throw away 5% of my Princo's... I'm getting them somewhere else now, where they've got some other batch without 'damaged goods'.

All this leads to the conclusion that the quality control at the Princo Corp. ain't much -if there is one at all-.

The Cendyne 4X DVD-RW is just a rebadged A05, so the princo's will be compatible with them.

The Princo's I was refering to (no problems at all), were 1X, not 2X or 4X. I have no experience with the higher speed discs.

Princo

I bought both Princo DVD -R and DVD -RWs. The -RWs has worked well but out of 6 DVD -Rs three turned out as coasters so far. Get a better brand!

ive burnt about 300 1x princo dvd-rs from rima.com and i dont think ive had a single coaster that was related to the media. also, all the princos i have work fine, even the ones that are more than a year old.
overall, if you get them from a reliable store they should be great.

Here's the deal

If some people say Princo's rock and a lot of others say they suck then they are unreliable at best. If you've got to worry about getting or not getting a bad batch you need to rethink your brand choice. Why do we put up with it? If you bought a 6 pack of VHS tapes or spark plugs or whatever and 3 didn't work you'd be pissed regardless of the relative price. I personally think that DVDPro or Princo or whatever they'er called this week are crap simply because of the state of their quality assurance (they have none). I got a sampler with three DVDPro's in it and they worked great. So I ordered 50. They were (are I've still got 'em somewhere) consistent quality. All coasters. I got them from supermediastore which is the same store as allmediaoutlet.com which is the same store as cdrdvdrmedia. I contacted them (email since they don't answer their phone) to tell them that 5 out of the first 6 won't play in my Sony set top. I got the whole "well it's not necessarily the media" thing. Then, when they agreed to a return, they hassled me about the fact that I bought 50 and I used 6. They replaced 44. When you figure in shipping 3 ways, the hours wasted, and the fact that the 25 spindle and the 19 singles they replaced the crap 50 disks with were crap as well, I would have been further ahead paying 50 cents more per disk for Accus or Optodisc or Riteks or anything other than Princos. By the way, I've filled and erased the RW DVDPro that came in the sampler at least 50 times without a hiccup so Princo can make a decent product if they want to. I guess a couple of days a week they don't want to.

You definitely got the bad end of that situation... I tried a 10 pack of the 4X Princos... and they all worked like a charm in the 105. So I ordered a 100 and split them with a friend. I'll see if the bulk order is good or not in time.. but I couldn't resist the $1.28 per to burn at 4X. If I get crap, then I won't buy them again and I'll go with Ritek 4X.

I bought the sample pack with the dvd-pro label. Worked great at 2x.

Used nero cd-speed to graph output. Nice, no drops.

Burned about 50 so far. 1 was a total failure, ~49 perfect.

I'd go with Princo if I could be assured they'd have a long lifespan. As it is I'd rather pay the extra money for discs I know will last, like Verbatim.

I bought a batch of Princo "TDK fakes". They worked fine. Got a second batch and they were nearly all coasters.

Next batch -Ritek G04 - so far excellent.

My experience; 50/50 = crap.
