Hey Pelican, I wanted to give you one enormous thanks for SUPread! Just discovered it yesterday after a few hours of trying to figure out a way to get subs from the source (never managed for DVDs)

*Scratching my hair* How come Supread don't show the subs? I have tried both demuxed subs from eac3to and evodemux with same result. I have also tried open the sups in subtitle creator where they show correctly (although the evodemux one didn't show all lines).

I only get, in the SRT tab, it says line 1, line 2 and so on.. and in image tab it shows just a black image.

I tried to save a new sup with subtitle creator and when i open it in subread it shows up correctly but the export to bd sup don't show at all on the final bd..

Any ideas?

You have to OCR the sub for you to actually see the text instead of "Line 1", "Line 2", etc.

I have done some tests now.. I got it to show the lines correctly in "image" tab. When pressing OCR it recognizes only dots in every line, and when i use OCR all it crashes at 49%.

The only way I can get a visible image is if i have OCR checked in options. Also I have to close and restart the program for the options to work.

It's an image needed by SUPread to OCR the .sup file.
But SupRip is by far better, at least for non English languages.

.sup are bitmaps and you want to convert them to text based subtitles like .srt.

You have to "teach" the program to recognize each character, so you have to enter the characters manually the first time.

Do you mean copy-past from character map letter by letter?

No, I mean that you have to input the correct character for each red character using your keyboard or the character map (it's easier and faster with your keyboard though). This just has to be done only the first time.

Can someone give me a hand?

I'm trying to convert some HD DVDs to Bluray. I'm using eac3to to demux the streams, saving the english subtitles as .sup files. I then want to put the movie back together as bluray using tsmuxer. I don't understand what the differences are, but I understand there are difference between an hddvd .sup file and a bluray pgs (which also usually is demuxed with a .sup extension). I tried loading the hddvd .sup into supread and exporting, but while the subtitle was listed as an option in TMT, selecting it didn't actually show the subtitles. tsmuxer did load the new file, which didn't work for the original hddvd .sup.

I'm assuming this is simply operator error, but I'm not sure what to change. Would someone mind posting a screen capture of the correct settings for converting hddvd .sup to bluray?

Thanks

All you do is load the BD .sup like you would any file in any gui, then select BD as the output type. Then just hit export. Remember to set your desired destination or supread will just put the newly made .sup (it will have the same name as the original but it will also say HD DVD) in the folder where supread resides. If you have done these steps then you did it right and it's your playback equipment that's the cause of the problem.

Hi guys.

Today i converted 24p video and audio to 25p PAL with eac3to using "-speedup" option.

Everything went fine.

This time i had to convert the subtitle to 25 fps as well; used SUPread.

Options > BD > 25 fps and exported and later converted to srt.

Nothing has changed in timecode. (For test i even made a 29.97 srt as well; timecode never changed)

The right timecode must have been:

1) 00:00:51 > 00:00:53

2) 00:00:56 > 00:00:58

3) 00:00:59 > 00:01:03

........

Check:

(original is on the right.)

And, any ideas?

OK the method which i followed to fix:

Demux raw video, audio and subtitle files with eac3to.

Speedup 24 p video and audio to 25 fps with eac3to using "-speedup" option.

Now we will try to speedup 24 fps subtitle to 25 fps:

Convert sup to srt using SupRip. (SUPread /or SubRip is another alternative but i choose SupRip since it is a clever program which you can teach him all characters easily)

http://exar.ch/suprip/

Syncronizing will be made by Subtitle Workshop:

http://www.urusoft.net/download.php?lang=1&id=sw4

Subtitle Workshop will not recognize the srt created by SupRip (SUPread /or SubRip srts will be recognized though)

so you have to make srt recognized by Subtitle Workshop;

Open srt and save it as "ANSI" txt:

Now we can see now it can be known by Subtitle Workshop and we load subtitle:

On this stage we make a TS, muxing video and audio files with TSMuxer which we use on Subtitle Workshop.

Main menu > Video > Open and you will see the video on the screen(you don't see video here on this SS since it's using OverlayMixer, i think)

The final step:

Edit > Timings > Adjust > Adjust subtitle and set first spoken points on the first and last subtitle lines:

And save as "*.srt"

Revized and original:

Now you can remux the TS file with this revized srt to BD or m2ts with TSMuxer; it will convert the srt to PGS.

(Or keep srt with the same name of ts under the same folder and watch with MPC-HT.)

Scaling subtitles to 720p

I am currently converting my HD-DVD's to Blu-ray. In order to fit the content on a single layer DVD I downscale the movie to 720p and encode with x264. Everything is straightforward, except for downscaling of the subs. I extract the bitmaps to PNG format using SUPread. These are 8-bit PNG's with variable transparency (set in the tRNS chunk of the PNG files).
Neither Photoshop CS nor GIMP reads the full transparency data. I have found that ImageMagick (convert.exe) actually can convert the PNG's to 32-bit (with transparency preserved) and scale them down to 1280x720. Another command-line program, Pngnq, can convert the 32-bit PGN's back to 8-bit with variable transparency.
I now have a BDN XML file (720p) and a set of 8-bit PNG's. Does anyone know a way doing the opposite of what SUPread does, i.e. to create a "sup" subtitle file from a XML file and PNG's?
I have access to Scenarist and I made one Bly-ray compilation with the 720p content. The end result is perfect with subtitles looking as the original (no jaggy outlines). A much easier (and less costly) way would be to use the free tsMuxeR. The only obstacle is the lack of a program that can create a "sup" file from BDN XML file and PNG's. Can anyone help?
