You could have saved the embarrasment by reading the ToDo list by len0x on his first post (or later comments on this thread), but instead you asked twice, and the second time disregarding proper conduct in this forum towards a developer, particularly when it comes to free tools. I suggested a reading on that subject, but obviously you seem to disregard any advice and do everything your way.

You know, bad manners better be used (if available). Ignorance can be overcome. But lazyness leaves almost no room for improvement.

so, i already have made lenOx a present some time ago (the first donation EVER!!)
if YOU want to make him a little present, just donate some cash

A very Merry Christmas to each and everyone. I hope that Santa was as good to you as he was to me.

And a special thanks to len0x for the unbelievable amount of time and effort that he does in our behalf. May we never be ungrateful for all that he does for those of us who do not have the talent nor expertise that he is blessed with.

I second MediaMage's thoughts on our making len0x's Christmas and New Year a little better by making a contribution or in some of our cases a second contribution for all the work on GK and AutoGK.

Auto Gordian v .8

You guys have done an amazing job making this program.. I ripped an episode from my x-files dvd collection and I can't believe the quality.. (I've been fiddling around with all the programs for a month now but haven't equalled it) and I am just so impressed! I do have one request thoug (as we always do) Have you considered incorporating the option for a batch job? That would make an already amazing program even moreso.. Thanks for all of your hard work guys!

Hi and welcome to the Forum-

Glad to hear that you're getting good results easily. This is from the bottom of very first post in this thread, so many pages ago:
Quote:
My TODO list:

- job queue support (batch mode)
- more complicated IVTC parameters tuning
- AVS Settings customization via config file, i.e. noise filter lines, deinterlace lines, decomb lines.
- second language support
len0x must be psychic. He read your mind before you even asked the question.

@len0x:

Happy X-Mas and a prosperous new year !

I hope you don't ingnore my post as in the past when I was requesting an improvement in the size setting dialog.

This time I desparately looking for your help. Santa brought a DivX player Medion/Lifetec 7457 equipped with the new Mediatec chipset. It plays flawlessy AGK-Xvid-CustomSize-AVI DVD-R exact until the 2GIG size border. Then skips to the next AVI, in case there is one.

Could you pls. add an option to save segmented AVI with custom size setting, size 2000MB. This would perfectly overcome this limitation since the player automatically skips to the next AVI seamlessy, at least with current firmware.

thx. for your software, regards, mike

You can do this yourself with vdub .. plus what sort of xvid encode NEEDS more than 2gb.. surely your overdoing thigs .. average compression rate about 10:1 (xvid) your source cant be 20GB!! maybe 2gb is limit of the avi container (20bit addressing or such like?) or is 2gb maximum limit of ANY file on dvd, remember std dvd is broken into 1gb chunks (vobs)..AFAIK.

if u are creating custom size of 4 to 8gb for autoGK your really going overboard NO movie unless its over 3 hours long is going to be that big. you should for one... break up your current files using vdub, and two... create custom files that are smaller than 2GB, because no "current" hardware firmware/chipset will play files over 2GB... its just way not needed... like said before dvd's break up files in many VOB files that are relitivly small on a dvd (about 1 - 2 GB). if your copying things to DVD keep them small and dont go overboard. (even with highest res and a nice bitrate and sound... it shouldnt go to huge, i would say 2GB at most).

Perhaps you just haven't seen any yet. I've seen dozens. As both you and Wolfman said, it's easy enough to split them ourselves, though. But I don't think it's an unreasonable request. Up to len0x whether or not he'll implement it, though.

I'm against it. This program is for the average Joe and shouldn't be complicated/cluttered with advanced options.

Cannot open file error

This is one of those stumpers. If anybody has any ideas I would be very grateful.

Here's the log file.

[12/27/2003 8:42:25 AM] Input dir: C:\STOS77
[12/27/2003 8:42:25 AM] Output file: C:\STOS77\test.avi
[12/27/2003 8:42:25 AM] Audio: English
[12/27/2003 8:42:25 AM] Subtitles: none
[12/27/2003 8:42:25 AM] Codec: XviD
[12/27/2003 8:42:25 AM] Target size: 700Mb
[12/27/2003 8:42:25 AM] Custom resolution settings: fixed width of 640 pixels
[12/27/2003 8:42:25 AM] Started encoding.
[12/27/2003 8:42:25 AM] Demuxing and indexing.
*************************************
EXCEPTION: Cannot open file "C:\STOS77\gk_tmp\test.d2v". The system cannot find the file specified
*************************************
[12/27/2003 8:42:25 AM] Job finished.

This is the log file for an encode with AutoGK that I am trying to run. I have a server that is running W2K Advanced server (AMD running at 1GHZ, and big IDE drives) with sp4 and then patched up to the latest. That is where I normally store all of my .VOB files (we'll call it system #1) and then I have a couple of workstations running W2K Professional also patched to sp4 and then up to the latest (we'll call them systems #2 and systems #3) The two workstations run AutoGK flawlessly. They are both running AMD Athlon processors clocked at 1GHz.

The above encode ran on one of the two workstations without a hitch (didn't try the other workstation but suspect that it would work just fine as well).

I was given an old dual processor pentium II running at 450Mhz, (we'll call it system #4). The disk subsystem for system #4 is RAID 5, 6 drives (9GB each) physical disks in the array. I loaded W2K Advanced Server on it and patched it up to the latest and greatest and loaded AutoGK (started with version 0.5) I recieved an identical error message to the one above when system #4 tried to do the encode with the .VOB files living on system #1. At first I thought maybe it was because of a security issue with the system #4 accessing system #1 so I moved the .VOB files onto the local C: drive of system #4, I still get same error message. Then I thought maybe that it was because I was running W2K advanced server as opposed to W2K Professional. So I fdisked system #4 and re-installed W2K professional, but I still get the same error message as you can see above. Then I remembered seeing a message about Hyperthreading being a problem and I thought perhaps dual processors would be a problem as well, so I took one of the processors out. The problem didn't go away, same error message.

Okay, so now I am really really stumped!!!!!!!!! BTW, I know the error message says it can't open the file. I am logged into the system as administrator with all access rights. I look in the designated folder (C:\STOS77\gk_tmp\) and it is empty. If I delete the folder completely it gets recreated but I get the same error message. It's like it can't create the file that is needed by the next step and when the next step that AutoGK initiates looks for the file it can't find it.

If anybody wants a good laugh at my expense I would be happy to be laughed at, Just so I can't get this stupid problem figured out.

Thanks!

AZEncoder

@AZEncoder

Sounds interesting. Few questions.

- Do you see DVD2AVI working or its just quickly exits?
- Are you able to use provided version of DVD2AVI on those systems manually on those vobs?

It might be internal DVD2AVI problem...

It happens very fast but from what I can tell DVD2AVI is loading and exiting very quickly.

pulled up .VOB's manually in DVD2AVI without a problem and chose demux (AC3,MPA,DTS) and then chose save project under the file menu.
Worked fine though a little slow (to be expected on a PII 450Mhz). It created a .d2v file in C:\STOS77\ directory.

Version of DVD2AVI is 1.77.3dg1.0.0RC2 (version that ships with AutoGK)

Have tried this with version 0.5 AutoGK and every update up to and including 0.8.

Thanks!

Subs not taken

@len0x,

It has happened to me several times that subs are not burnt on the output stream. For instance, on Matrix Reloaded, I ripped all extras to different folders. Then I tried to AutoGK them separately.

1. Making of the highway scene: worked OK (congrats on a perfect AutoIVTC)

2. Find the exit: no subs. Audio is out of sync too.
Streams file:

Sorry if this has been asked already before but it's hard to search just one thread (when that thread has 50+ pages!) I was wondering why one cannot get a variable bitrate compression. Maybe it isn't even possible with Xvid/Divx and I'm just confused with audio compression, but thanks for answering nonetheless.

BTW, my few bucks is in the pipe. Thanks for this great software!

I dont know what type your dvd is, but maybe it's multiangel, which is a fact wo async subs, or autogk uses cc subs, which also makes some subs async

guzpasho-

When you ask about VBR, are you referring to the video or the audio? If video, then it is classic VBR 2-pass encoding. I think you are referring to the audio, though. AutoGK uses Average Bitrate, which is a form of VBR. The default for 1 CD rips is the BeSweet Alt-Preset 128. It will give you a VBR MP3, averaging around 128. If you play the audio in a player that shows the bitrate, such as WinAmp, you'll see how it fluctuates, or varies. But my audio knowledge isn't perhaps all it could be, so if that doesn't answer the question, maybe you can elaborate some more.

I think it does, thanks. I was asking about the video, actually. All I know is that when I play the video in Winamp the bitrate doesn't change, but I hadn't considered ABR. Thanks again.

I'm trying to determine why cartoons like Family Guy and Simpsons suck so bad when encoding. You would THINK that they would be much more compressable, you know? But to get even fair quality for a 22 minute episode you have to set the size to 100 MB, which is comparable to live-action video's compressability.
