Should I rename the program?
I've been considering renaming dvd2svcd to something else. The next release will also support dvd output and I feel that the dvd2svcd name just isn't cutting it anymore. I have a few names in my mind but I'm unsure how the public would react to a name change.

That is really a hard question and choice. DVD2SVCD has established strong brand awareness/branding. I wonder if a variant of the name like DVD2SVCDPlus or DVD2SVCDEX(tra) might serve the purpose. At least something along those lines to establish the expanded functions, but still retain the branding. In effect it is really DVD2Anything, but that name does not quite have a ring to it.

I think you should rename it to catchy name (like Kopycat or Ucopia), don't use something like x2x

I second DDogg's reasons but also like the DVD2 name (with 2 as a superscript, like Alien 3 ). It encloses the idea of power, of versatility (it is not constrained to an output format), and also recalls bidimensionality.
My next point is completely off topic but I will bring it here. Make it shareware! Earn some well deserved money! Even though you use plenty of third parties tools and code, the value of your tool is not the easy downloading of all extras. (They might even be packaged separately if that is a concern.) The value of your tool is the automation of a really difficult, cumbersome and error-prone task. And you've done it quite well. Donateware also works, and gives the users to pay according to their abilities. But since it is not mandatory, most will just not pay for something they can get for free. At least a small donation should be needed to keep the software running after you've become acquainted of it usefulness. That's my 2 cents (much less than deserved )

As a aside comment, Ucopia reminds me of UCopulatory which might get a lot of attention, but not reflect the products functions very well
If the name had to be changed to more properly reflect the use then DvdČ might be ok. I seem to remember a discussion about that name a couple of years ago. However, note the superscript looks kinda sucky unless it is bigger - DvdČ. Sorta along the line Byteshark mentioned, I also thought DVDRecoder might work but then a lot of brand awareness gets tossed out the window and I would not be surprised if somebody was already using that name. |

Back on topic, DVD2 with a superscript 2 would be an effective and simple name, that'd be my choice.
