I'm trying to figure out why Vdub saves my avi file very slowly when I use Direct Stream Copy. I have fed Vdub with an avs file. I have selected a section with the mark in and out buttons, selected Direct Stream Copy on the Video menu then File, save as. I get real time saving, about 25 fps. Normally when I join 2 avi's with Vdub I get thousands of frames per second. How come this is happening?

Does AVI Trimmer work the same way or is it way faster or am I just not using Vdub correctly?

Interesting screenshot! Does programming slow down after a visit thru the " forest" , or just more enjoyable results?

Hi tyee,
It is pretty hard to say why you have troubles with VDub.
I suppose it will be more efficient to ask VDub developers.

I don't think AVI trimmer operates the same way as VDub. The trimmer use DirectShow technology for trimming.
As for the velocity why do not you just give it a try?

I don't think visiting to to such kind of "forest" affects to development speed

But I'm not sure this is the case, since the character is not employed in SolveiG Multimedia, he is Stalker

AviSynth is a frame server, so each frame gets decoded, and the result - when saved in Direct Stream Copy mode - should be a large, uncompressed AVI.

Direct Stream Copy works the way you expected only if you open the AVI file directly in VirtualDub, not via the frame server.

Hi there, I just discovered that the freeware program MediaCoder ( http://www.mediacoder.cn/ ) can crop/cut.

Install it from sourceforge and select a media file. Then press shift+f6 for "clipping" which marks in and out.

It seem not to support direct stream copy, so you have to convert it to another format.

Because Direct Stream Copy will be saving the uncompressed video being served to it by AVISynth. Is trhe output file size huge?
Under what circumstances would you want to save a video you've opened via an avs script using Direct Stream Copy?
