Errors That I've Never Seen While Opening in PgcEdit
This is a recent 20th Century Fox release. I'm trying to cut out the logos and warnings for use as a backup DVD for car rides.
The short version of my problem: I can decrypt and recode this DVD with no problem. But when I try to open the files with PgcEdit, it gives me errors that I have never seen before and the trace mode navigates to a dead end. Details......... I decrypt the entire DVD to hard drive using DVDFabDecrypter (6.0.4.0) with no problem. I open PgcEdit (9.2). As PgcEdit opens the decrypted DVD on hard drive, it gets to VTS 3 IFO, and stops: ===== PgcEdit: Read DVD Error in Title Play Map table (VMG_TT_SRPT): Title 6 is assigned to a non existing TTN (VTS 1, TTN 13) (or TTN 13 has no Entry PGC defined in the VTS_PGCITI table of VTS 1)! This problem can be caused by a new form of copy protection. PgcEdit can stop parsing the Title Play Map Table right now, but it's dangerous. If you stop the parsing now, PgcEdit will still try to load the DVD, but some titles might be unavailable. Take care! Stop the parsing of the Title Play Map Table now? ===== I click "Yes' and then get ===== PgcEdit: Open DVD: Parse VMG_TT_SRPT ERROR: Invalid DVD structure. Problem in the VMG_TT_SRPT table! There is no Title in VTS1! This is illegal, and can cause problems when burning the DVD. PgcEdit will create Title 6, assigned to the entry PGC of TTN 1 of VTS1. Please save the DVD! ===== I click "OK" I then get the same error, only for VTS3, offering to create Title 7, assigned to the entry of TTN 1 of VTS 3. PgcEdit then successfully scans VTS1, VTS2, and VTS3 for Buttons over Video. I go to toggle trace mode, hit Next PB. It runs, stopping at VMGM, LU 1, 29 where I notice a pre command in brown, "1 (JumpTT) Jump to Title 24". I hit Next PB, and get: -- pre 1 : (JumpTT) Jump to Title 24 ####### Target not found! ------> End of post commands: Exiting! DVD Playback end! Trace mode won't continue and I can't edit anything. When I simply decrypted and used Nero Recode to shrink WITHOUT using PgcEdit, the end result worked fine. Any ideas? [And thank you for your help!] -Jeff |

BTW, while trying to fix DVD structure (even unencrypted ones),
DVDFab seems to introduce other errors, at least in 3 versions I checked. I stopped using Fab for that reason in cases I need to preserve navigation structure. But for fixing defect VOBs from almost unreadable DVD discs I found Fab doing the best job before Any and Smart. |

I can guess that this VTS was probably unreferenced but had more than one title and Fab pared it down to a single title without fixing the TTN table. This is very poor. Of course, in terms of playback, if the VTS is unreferenced, nothing will be wrong - which is probably why your recoded DVD played OK. And, you should have answered no - after all, PgcEdit warned you not to answer yes and that titles could be lost (this is why trace stops). You should notify Fengtao of your problem - it certainly is not a problem with PgcEdit. Regards

The default suggestions are very carefully chosen to guide uncertain users down the safest route so you should always accept PgcEdit's default suggestion unless you're absolutely certain you need to override it. It looks to me as if it's a problem with the rip but the experts here will know better. Edit: Oops blutach beat me to it. Looks like it is a bad rip then. Thank you Setarip_old, Emulgator, blutach and Wombler!
I have rarely had any problems with DVDFabDecrypter, so I didn't think that was the problem. Just for fun, I fired up RipIt4Me and the rip turned out fine. PgcEdit opened and edited with no problem. Sorry for the false alarm. It was NOT a problem with PgcEdit. I'll notify Fengtao. [This issue occurred on the Simpsons Season 12, discs 1 and 2, Region 1] -Jeff |
