Tomcats (R1) Widescreen or Fullscreen Cheat Sheet

Tomcats [Region 1] WideScreen or FullScreen
Courtesy of 2CL

I finally figured out how to backup this movie with the aspect ratio I selected with no navigation errors. Initially, I had problems and I had to abort my post. It seems I had a lot of problems with Columbia Tristar DVDs with dual aspect ratios. After doing more than a few, I managed to get some kind of pattern but not a consistent one. So here it is again and it has been tested in IFOedit, PowerDVD, and on my standalone with success.

Tools I used
IFOedit 0.95
DVD Decrypter in File Mode and selecting certain files

Title Information
Title 1: VTS_01 contains your WideScreen movie
*A value of 1 in GPreg<7> plays your WideScreen movie.

Title 2: VTS_03 contains your FullScreen movie
*A value of 2 in GPreg<7> plays your FullScreen movie.

__________________________________________________________
1. Create a folder named “Tomcats” and a subfolder named “Files”.
__________________________________________________________
2. Rip the following files for your desired aspect ratio to your “Tomcats”folder.
  • WIDESCREEN: Rip all files except VTS_03_1.VOB to VTS_03_4.VOB
FULLSCREEN: Rip all files except VTS_01_1.VOB to VTS_01_4.VOB
__________________________________________________________
3. Region Free every IFO and save commands if Region Code Encoding (RCE) is detected. I do this out of habit especially if I decided to use SmartRipper instead.
__________________________________________________________
4. Open VIDEO_TS.IFO with IFOedit and press “Get VTS Sectors” buttons to load other IFOs.
__________________________________________________________
5. Bypass Unwanted Stuff

In VIDEO_TS.IFO / VMG Overview / Language Menu Unit 1, do a Delete Playback on the following menus. Select and press your Delete Playback button. If successful, your number of Programs and Cells should be zero and (uses VOB-IDs: #) should disappear.

Language Menu Unit 1: [English]
Menu 1: [Title-Menu]....(entry PGC)..(Programs: 1) (Cells: 1) (uses VOB-IDs: 1) First Aspect Ratio Menu
Menu 2: [entry only].................(Programs: 2) (Cells: 2) (uses VOB-IDs: 2) Columbia Tristar Logo
Menu 3: [entry only].................(Programs: 2) (Cells: 2) (uses VOB-IDs: 3) Movie Rating
Menu 4: [entry only].................(Programs: 2) (Cells: 2) (uses VOB-IDs: 4) FBI Warnings
Menu 5: [entry only].................(Programs: 2) (Cells: 2) (uses VOB-IDs: 5) FBI Warnings
Menu 6: [entry only].................(Programs: 2) (Cells: 2) (uses VOB-IDs: 6) Format Modify Note

__________________________________________________________
6. Save VIDEO_TS.IFO
__________________________________________________________
7. Bypassing Second Aspect Ratio Menu

Go to VTS_09_0.IFO / VTS Overview / Menu Language Unit and do a Delete Playback on Menu 2.

Language Menu Unit 1: [English]
Menu 2: [entry only].................(Programs: 1) (Cells: 1) (uses VOB-IDs: 1) Columbia Tristar Logo

__________________________________________________________
8. Save VTS_09_0.IFO
__________________________________________________________
9. Select your aspect ratio preference.
  • WIDESCREEN: Proceed to next step.
    FULLSCREEN: Go to step 14.
__________________________________________________________
WIDESCREEN

REECYCUP,

I apoligized for not replying back on your PM reply but I have been very busy during the holidays as I was hosting relatives in town and work.

As for...

c. Edit Pre Command # 4 by right-clicking and clicking on “edit command”. Change PGC nr. 1 in drop-down menu to 2.
OLD: 4.Pre Command (LinkPGCN) Link PGC 1 [20 04 00 00 00 00 00 01 ]
OLD: 4.Pre Command (LinkPGCN) Link PGC 4 [20 04 00 00 00 00 00 04 ]

I did this guide in the wee hours of the morning. If my memory serves me right, the second pre-command should be NEW instead of OLD. PGC 4 contained the jump to Title 1(widescreen titleset)and PGC-5 had a jump to Title 2(fullscreen titleset).

The menu was located in Titleset 1. If you selected to go fullscreen (Title 2), you can't to jump to that title from Title 1. You make a jump to a VMG PGC-menu in Video_ts.ifo and then make a jump to another Title 2. To make you better understand the limitations of what commands you can do in domains, I found this link useful for navigation instructions. Look in "Jump and Call graphics" link. http://members.aol.com/mpucoder/DVD/index.html

I have another one big APOLOGY to you and others who followed the guide. See, my brother borrowed my backup DVD to watch and he found some errors that escaped me. It seems that the aspect ratio option pops up again after pressing movie play in special features and also if you select a chapter in the scene selections. Man, this movie is a B***H. It's definitely good training for understanding navigation though.

When I've got free time, I'll go and correct these.

For the mean time, I went and edited the 2nd OLD command so it reflects the new corrected line.

TomCats Cheat sheet has been redone in my first post on fixing aspect ratio menu problem. I watched this movie again and still found it classicly hiliarious.
