It's hard to really pinpoint what exactly is wrong with the image, other than the feeling of strain on my eyes that it induces if I stare at it for a few seconds. The 1.2.908.0 one doesn't do that.

Thank you for your time.
The images look almost the same, but the grain is slightly different.

What output settings do you use, take another screenshot after pressing CTRL+J once so i can take a look.
This might be an image quality regression that affects everyone.

I use VMR 9 renderless in Mixer Mode with 3D surfaces and bilinear PS 2.0. But I've tried using every other setting and my eyes still ache.

what happens when you change the scaler to nearest neighbour

EDIT:

Can you try with this version too: http://www.xvidvideo.ru/media-player...-svn-1342.html

What do you expect? They're JPEGs.

Nearest neighbor didn't help..
I actually tried that new version earlier today, and they have the same undesirable effect.

I'll capture some png's next, but right now I'd like to go to sleep.

I've reported an issue regarding amr (the sound mutes after a few seconds)
After trying a lot of clips, I became sure it only happens with videos created by Nokia libraries (S60).
I also tried Monogram and FFDShow amr decoders and they both play the same videos without that sound problem.
Have you guys acknowledged that bug?

I have 2 samples for that particular issue:
http://www.2shared.com/file/8051612/9bc3b58a/test.html
http://i.gsmarena.com/vv/reviewsimg/...marena_001.mp4

I'm using MPC-HC v1.3.1342.0

Maybe a stupid question but ...

i noticed that internal audio decoder (for example AAC) is based on Libfaad2.6. I also noticed that exists libfaad 2.7. So how i could use libfaad 2.7 instead of the old 2.6
The same thing for example also for DTS internal decoder that is based on libdts 0.0.2 but 0.0.5 is avaible .
Thanks

I just realized that when I disable "lock back-buffer" in v1.2.908.0, my eyes also hurt to the same degree. So perhaps the lack of back-buffer lock in the newer versions is the cause of the problem...

You know I watch videos with MPC-HC every day and I don't notice any poor quality. I can appreciate that there might be a bug or problem on your system that's causing the picture quality to be poor, and you might have to do your best to report it and maybe use something else until it can be identified and solved for you, but I don't believe whining and using emotive statements such as you have is going to get you help any faster.

I think its HIGHLY likely that your problem is an interaction of different things on your system - have you tried the same build and videos on another PC to verify this problem?

If I offended anyone when I said that unlocked back-buffer causes eyestrain, I do apologize.

I've had this same issue on my system right before I wiped the hard drive and reinstalled windows xp, so I believe it's something that isn't going to go away in my case.

No worries... you haven't been 'offensive,' it's just that it's usually helpful to describe what you're seeing, not how it makes you feel. "Eyeaches" are better discussed on medical forums, no?

What the others are asking you is:

Please explain the difference between the 2 images in technical terms like:

"the edges are slightly more blurred"

When your give us PNG comparison pictures we can add to the description by using pixel comparison applications to highlight the pixels that are not the same between the 2.

I really wish I could say the differences between two produced videos was something I could easily define, like tearing or graininess or the picture being upside-down.. I guess it just feels like the frames are being assembled in a haphazard way when the back buffer isn't being used, and somehow it makes a difference. I wish I could be more helpful with this.

Here are two more samples, in png format:
Code:
http://h.imagehost.org/view/0056/fox2
http://h.imagehost.org/view/0324/fox3.png
And may I ask why the lock-backbuffer function was omitted from the latest version?

Unless I made a mistake when I subtracted them the images you posted are identical.

According to imagemagic those 2 images are identical.

lock-back buffer was replaced with the GPU flush options that you can find in the rightclick menu > renderer settings

Does your problem match what is explained in this bug report:
http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/mpc-hc/ticket/110

Sorry about that, let's try again:

Code:
http://h.imagehost.org/view/0391/fox2
http://h.imagehost.org/view/0682/fox3
Unfortunately, my issue doesn't match that bug report because it doesn't change anything when I turn off VMR mixer mode. I think my issue is just related to the new syncing methods introduced in this build.

Could you please tell me what it means to "wait for flushes"?

combine shaders work on the original resolution image (e.g. 720x480 for a dvd), screen space works on the "post scaled" image (e.g. 1920x1080 if you are watching the dvd fullscreen on such an display). For more info on the parameters of "complex sharpen 2" (and 1) and what they really do see this thread:

That thread also contains some info how to speed up complex sharpen 2.
