DVD2SVCD won't open!

the first time i installed dvd2svcd it worked fine...the first time i opened it. now, whenever i try to open it, i get the "this operation has encountered a problem and needs to close"....lol and yes, i have restarted the computer. i've reinstalled plenty of times, and it always does the same thing. why would this work the very first time i open it but then every time after that it won't?

Well there is something going on with your comp. I would uninstall the program and make sure that you delete the folder that you installed it too (c:/program files/DVD2SVCD). If that doesnt work then you can try a different version of DVD2SVCD and see if that does anything. If you can format your HD and reinstall windows without losing a lot of stuff then I would also reccomend that.

i am definately not reformatting, i'll defrag when i get a chance but this comp is less than 2 months old and i'm NOT going to reformat just because dvd2svcd doesn't work. i've seen other methods of making svcds.

looks like you're running windows 98. it could possibly be some registry entries that are messed up...i would recommend as jason says to try and install a different version.

The other versions that are out there fix some bugs. Most of the bugs that they fix are minor and you prolly shouldnt encounter them at all. If you go to the DVD2SVCD homepage there is a readme there that has a list of all the things that have been fixed.

I'm using D2S v 1.1.2b1 running WinXP SP1, never had any problems until I upgraded my P4 2.53 to 2.6c with Hyper-Threading enabled.

The weird thing is I ran two backups without problems, CCE2.5 using both CPUs, then one night I let D2S shutdown my machine after finish. The next day I could not start D2s with the same messages like wezman2k. I uninstalled, cleaned up registry and reinstalled D2S several times, still same problems. I reboot and disabled HT and everything is working OK.

So I think D2S v1.1.2b1 doesn't like HT or at least some components, too bad that I deleted all log files after the two good runs. I haven't tried v1.1.3b2 because I like the simplicity of v1.1.2B1 and it worked for me. But I'll try new version later.

@DVD2SVCD, are you aware of this. Thank you.

UPDATE: I installed v 1.1.3b2 and having same problems, work fine with HT disabled...

Sorry I did thatright after i posted this.
thanh you...
Could you answer a quick quesion for me? I looked everywhere for a guide on this new dvd2dvd. I was just wondering about the bitrate tab. Iuse cce sp and want the final output to be 4000 instead of 4480. What would I change to accomplish this? I tried to just change cd size to 4000 but got the same result.

Hmm, thinking more - Just to verify, you are saying the final size of the encode is NOT changed when you change the CD size to 4000 kb from the default size of 4480 KB?

works now

for some reason didn't work first timr but works now. I must have screwed up something? Do I need to change just the cd size, or do I need to mess with the actual bitrate settings too?
Also I am having problem with Scenarist, it doesn't seem to create scn file? I am using 2.6.

All settings should be ok. No need to mess with them. Maybe try with another DVD.

now dvd2dvd is hanging at
Creating Sonic Scenarist Script file
Executing Sonic Scenarist
It won't seem to do Scenarist portion right. Is 2.6 supported or should I install 2.7?

It supports v2.6 and v2.7 of scenarist. If you look down a couple of posts you will see that this was a minor problem. Simply d/l the latest update and your scenarist problem (starting) will be fixed.
