eac3to will not stripPullDown on HD-DVD AVC streams, only on VC-1, is that correct?

Hi yesgrey3. All what you really need is the key :-)) The plugin will be installed with your nero but it isnīt activ. On the nero page you can only buy a licence. You must give it in the nero controll center and all is ok. I think the plugins for 7 and 8 are the same.

inmetzi,
My reply was for jeffnoone who referred was using nero 7.5.7.0 and even with the key had problems, but thank you for referring the key, I realize my post was incomplete.

So, we need the key for activating the plugin, and nero 7, version 7.8.5.0 or higher, because only those have the plugin included to be activated.

PS: madshi, maybe could be a good idea if you also include the nero 7 version number needed in your first post...

Yes. Further, it could be noted in the first post that only "Showtime" needs to be installed, and the HD/BD plugin activated. SmartStart and Nero Scout also get installed but Scout can be de-activated if one works hard enough at it!

I notice there is a new May 30, 2008 update to Nero7, version 7.11.10.0 which is available here. But the Release Notes only include to 7.11.6.0 so I can't tell if there is any change at all to Nero Showtime. My own version (updated to 7.10.1) comes with Showtime 3.10.1.0 which does not appear to have changed, not w/7.11.6 anyway.

1. Does anyone here have 7.11.10.0? What version Showtime therein? Release Notes? My gosh it's massive at 388Mb vs. update 7.10.1 which was only 177Mb!?

2. Could Ahead Nero possibly have made things more complex, both for end-users and for themselves?

Yes, I installed it. Showtime is 3.10.1.0, apparently only BurningRom was updated. The size is 388MB because it's the multi-language pack. Your previous with 177MB was only english, right?

Sorry for the off-topic...

Is there any place with more detailed instructions for using eac3to? Reading more >100 pages for finding what I need it's a real pain...

Actually, that page is part of the manual: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/eac3to

It's incomplete and kinda out of date though (it doesn't not have latest eac3to features).

That's exactly what I was looking for! Could be outdated, but the basics are all there!

Why is not a link to the manual in the first post?

Can I get some help with regard to E-AC3 and standard AC3

I have a HD-DVD where all audio tracks are E-AC3, but the English one (the one I'm interested in ) is 1536kbit/s (others are 768)

Now I want to put this into a BD structure

So when I run eac3to on the 2 connected .evo files, and output the ac3 only - eac3to seems to use the Sonic encoder, and convert s the E-AC3 to AC3 at 640. Note I didnt change any buttons on Eac3to and more GUI - left at default - most recent version used

When I run tsRemuxeR, it leaves the E-AC3 intact (and playable?), so its left at 1536

TWO questions:

Q. 1. How do I get eac3to to output the E-AC3?

Q. 2. I know support of E-AC3 is optional in the BD world, I will be using PS3 to play, which I believe supports it.
BUT will a BD with a E-AC3 track only play properly more widely (eg if I was to burn to BD disc)
Or would I be better off putting both the AC3 and the E-AC3 onto the BD disc/folders

Thanks Jeff

Before anyone points out the obvious of why I am using a program called "eac3to" and still wanting to get eac3 out, the reason for this I am a relative noob, and my reading indicated that eac3to gave best demuxed output, remaining in sync, with multipart .evo or branching .evo
This is a straight two part .evo - but overall wanted to make sure whatever AC3 I use, it is fully synced

I demuxed the same file using evodemux, eac3to and tsremuxer:

This is what I got for a 2hr 15min VC-1, E-AC3 original files (FEATURE_1.EVO and FEATURE_2.EVO):

Video (size in Windows Explorer):
tsRemuxer 19,436,556
evodemux 19,436,643
Eac3to 19,436,643

Audio:
tsRemuxer 1,527,399
evodemux 1,527,401
Eac3to 636,418

The diference in size of the video files represent only 0.04 sec, so seems inconsequential
Any comments on why there are minor (probably negligible) differences?

Final question:
What is best tool to give exact lenghts of video and audio files, once demuxed? MediaInfo only gives to the minute for audio files

the remuxing of the cinema paradiso blu-ray results in a problem, eac3to says "This doesn't seem to be a valid h264/AVC stream." and doesnt recognize the video stream.

heres a 100mb sample: http://www.mediafire.com/?uydzmenzsn0

anyone else encountered this problem as well?

OK, I figured out part of the question 2 posts above

the way I got eac3to to output an E-AC3 (eac3) was to use the enhanced GUI to "pretend" to output an AC3, then use Ctrl-C on the command window area, copy the (long) string of commands into notepad, change .ac3 to .eac3, save as batch fiel and run from command window
File is same size as evodemux

Still interested in answers to:

Q. 2. I know support of E-AC3 is optional in the BD world, I will be using PS3 to play, which I believe supports it.
BUT will a BD with a E-AC3 track only play properly more widely (eg if I was to burn to BD disc)
Or would I be better off putting both the AC3 and the E-AC3 onto the BD disc/folders

q.3 Any comments on why there are minor (probably negligible) differences between different demuxers?

Q4. What is best tool to give exact lengths of video and audio files, once demuxed? MediaInfo only gives to the minute for audio files

I looked through the archives of this beast of a thread on how to convert HD DVD TrueHD and mux it to TS. It kind of died. Wanted to bring up a couple of things. I know you can have PCM in TS, I've done it with Ratatouille. Plays fine on my Popcornhour.

So converted some TrueHD to .wav, but what I ended up with with 16-bit. eac3to said something about only being 16-bit. I'm using the Nero 7 codecs. Is this due to the source, or did I due something wrong?

I've only ever seen 24-bit BluRay PCM, so I don't know if 16-bit is supported. TsMuxer muxed it, but it did play on my Popcornhour. I don't know if it was the 16-bit or a bug in TsMuxer (I didn't use TsMuxer for Ratatouille.) Anybody had any luck with this?

You did nothing wrong and it's not a bug in eac3to or tsMuxeR.
There are a lot of 16-bit TrueHD and LPCM tracks in HD DVD and Blu-ray.

It's a bug in libav decoder. Doesn't make any difference though, the track should be fine as you said. If you have nero decoder, you can try it and compare the two tracks.

I've only seen 24-bit, but I haven't played with it much. I'll have a look-see at the PMT and see what's up there. There's a lot that can go wrong, decode, muxing, Popcornhour, and Amp. I'll see if I can find a BluRay with 16-bit PCM.

Looks like Casino Royale is 16-bit. I'll run that thought RemuxTool and see what I get. Then I'll compare the PMT to what TsMuxer generated.
