soundtracks, will I hear it?

I am thinking about putting only the 5.1 audio soundtrack on a DVD

I assume the DVD will mix the channels together if it has onboard decoder and the sound settings are changed to analogue output, so will I hear the sound on a TV that is mono (i.e. portable TV)

cheers

Yes u r. Each standalone has a downsampler circuit that will convert the digital stream to a stereo one that can be heard from a tv.

I don't think DTS downsamples. You'd have to use a DD 5.1 stream.

What u r actually saying is that when u select a dts audio and u r watching the movie from a tv-set the standalone actually outputs the dd stream downsampled to stereo?

all DVD players have a built in DD decoder (PAL region standalones have m2a decoding too), and there is a few that have a built in DTS decoder, which i have 1.

i can set it to decode the m2a, DD or DTS to the 6 analogue inputs, decode to the digital, or decode and mix to the L & R outputs.
