Searched the thread but couldn't find anything about that, but -- Is there something EXTRA that HAS to be installed NVidia-wise? I've tried to get it working on a Macbook Pro (Bootcamp XP) with a 8600M GT which should be working according to the PureVideoHD table, yet, I still get only an error message.

EDIT: In case there is, maybe we should quick-summarize the setup.

You have to install the latest Nvidia drivers. You have to put nvcuvid.dll in your search path.

What error message are you getting?

Hmm, installed the latest "notebook drivers" from NVidia site. Now, by search path, do you mean the set variable "path"? (like set path=so and so in the DOS days, now found in I did add the path to DGVC1Dec folder (where nvcuvid.dll is residing), still I get "GPU decoder: Failed to create video decoder [100]".

Tried an elementary VC1 stream, demuxed from an HD-DVD EVO file by EVODemux. Should I try a different demuxer?

I mean put the DLL in your system32 directory.

What is Bootcamp XP and what is a Macbook? If this is not running on stock Windows I'm afraid you are on your own. CUVID requires standard DirectShow stuff.

Bootcamp is Apple's utility to install Windows on a Mac (mainly a fancy bootloader + some drivers because Macs don't have a BIOS)...

Some fancy notebook with a logo of an apple that someone took a bite out of already...

Well, it IS a standard Windows installation...

Put nvcuvid.dll into the sytem32 directory and install the latest Nvidia drivers. If that doesn't work run the CUVID sample decoder from the CUVID SDK. If that doesn't run contact Nvidia for support. If it does, post again to let me know.

After doing some research it seems as if the problem lies with XP and notebook graphics. I had problems like that before audio-wise (I use DAWs a lot, both Cubase and Pro Tools), but so far nothing in terms of simple video-playback. Anyway, I was advised to install Vista, but I'll use the opportunity to install the Windows 7 Beta. I'll let you know if that changes anything.

Just an observation:
When the CUVID server is being used for an encode (application 1) and at the same time by another application 2 (e.g. mpc for viewing) both outputs get garbled (the encode and the playback), or CUVID may even crash.

You shouldn't do that.

You're right; it is not clear.

I meant "transcoding the original media"
Here is the way i go:
Getting dgv via DGVC1NV and frameserving to MeGui over CUVIDServer.

It means that your stream has a problem. Is it at the beginning, end, or in the middle?
