What driver version you using? What is the file type are your attempting to play back? Tried a fresh install of LAV filters?

If you dont have issues using LAV as the source directly -> problem solved?

How can I use LAV Splitter Source as file source instead File Source Async? I set Prefer merit for LAV Splitter Source and block File Source Async, but mpc shows that it can't render stream at all. In LAV Splitter Source I checked all formats.

You need to install via the Installer, it'll set that up automatically.

Could there be a bug in the installer that was introduced in one of the last few versions?
I'm using all four "LAV x" external filter options as prefer in MPC-HC since I started using LAV and previously that was everything that was needed. But some time ago I noticed that AVIs are using File Source Async (and LAV Splitter) whereas MKVs still use LAV Splitter Source.

I didn't change any of the format options in the installer or the splitter configuration.

You may have installed something else that reset the extension mapping. In any case, the next version has a basically completely rewritten installer, so if there were bugs, they are no more (but i'm sure new ones instead!)

If you activate CUVID acceleration for XVID, you do so at your own risk. If it doesn't work, turn it off.
There is a reason its off by default, because it doesnt work properly.

Actually on forceware 285.62 I haven't encountered any problems yet, everything plays fine. Can you upload any DivX/Xvid sample which can not be played, I wanna test it.

Can you fix the Splitter to prevent it from crashing Recycle bin and COM Surrogate?
Or is it something i myself can fix?

Sorry asked this before;O

You have to find out which file it crashes on, and then send me a sample of such a file.

Itīs pretty much every file i think, as long as i try to make a thumbnail of it;S

It may also be MKV files which i Direct Stream copied so they became "AVI" that mess up.

But itīs the thumbnail thing i think, and if i deactivate AVI splitting on LAV itīs solved, though i want to use it;S

Hmmm, does the fact that this file is VFR further make calculations difficult? I notice lav sets 23.968fps should anything be added that would round the calculated fps to a more standard value such as 23.976 in this case?

Also does the fact that this was a mov>mp4 re-mux have any thing to do with that the file is broken?

Well as i've stated numerous times before, the fps in the mediatype is just a hint, its not to be taken as absolute truth.
The MSDN even says that for VFR is perfectly valid for this value to be zero, however that seems to not work with alot of decoders/renderers.

In any case, i try to supply a somewhat valid value, but if the header information are totally screwed up, i just give it what ffmpeg measured from the first few frames, which may or may not be very accurate.

How the actual frames are timed is entirely up to the timestamps, not the fps value - at least if the decoder is doing a proper job, which is why the fps aren't all that important.
Just calculating from fps would most likely not work properly with VFR anyway, not to mention cases of missing frames like with Live TV (or recordings of that)

PS:
The header info inside the H264 data seems to be broken, don't think a remux would cause that, but i guess everything is possible.

nevcariel, First of all Thank You for LAV!

I think I have found a problem with LAV Video on certain titles.

I get video corruption (pixelation? incomplete decoding?) occasionally on X-Men BD's (I have seen the problem on 2 or 3 different titles).

Here is a screenshot

I do not get this problem with Microsoft Dtv-Dvd decoder.

This is on Windows 7 32bit, Intel i3 (no external video card, no hardware acceleration).

Code:

I have the LAV Splitter pin info if that helps.

I can upload a clip if needed (how long? what tool do you recommend to extract?).

Let me know if you need anything else.

Writing to HKCR\Media Type\{E436EB83-524F-11CE-9F53-0020AF0BA770} fails here for the AVI and mpeg-ps subkeys. The other keys are fine.

Probably protected by Windows, nothing i really want to override automatically. Even with UAC elevation those are hard to change.
Does the installer actually complain? If so, do you know how to shut it up?

For MPEG-PS, the installer is basically only writing the default windows values, so if its still protected, it should be fine.
For AVI, it writes the default windows values plus 2 extra values for more files. But overall, it should also not hurt if the write fails - as long as it doesnt complain to the user.

There is no user visible error. The functions will simply return false. It is just something I noticed and found strange since it used to work fine afaik when it was done by the filter. Error code is 5, which is access denied, so it indeed seems to be some kind of protection 'feature' of Windows.
