ELTA 8882 Divx 3.11 Problems !

I asked elta germay when the new firmware will be released because i still got problems this the playback of divx3.11 files.

They answerd me :

Dear Sir, DivX 3.11 is fully supported. When it is not working with your CD´s, then is something wrong with the files or it is burned wrong

Well if you guy's out there got some problemens with the divx3.11 encoded files please post it.

Please mention how the file is encoded bitrate, framerate etc etc etc.
So we can send this info to elta, hopefully they will fix a few things.

Cheers

Currently no player fully supports divx3.11 playback, correct me if I am wrong ... you will always get some stuttering, even with the new Philips player (ESS-based).

smiller667 is correct. Every Sigma and ESS based player on the market will exhibit freezes and skips with high bitrate DivX3 clips.

mmh, i have a Divx3.11 test clip with an average of 4000kBit /720x576 wich plays perfect on my Yamada 6100 (ess based).
Also some few 2cd Movies wich play all without problem.
In fact, i cannot find a difference in bitrate/resolution limitations between DivX3.11 and DivX5 with this player.

what kind of test clips? An 700kbit/s average could be more problematic than a 4mbit clip if the 4mbit is almost cbr whereas the 700kbit has 10mbit peaks.
btw, where did you get that player from? I wasn't even aware there were other players based on the ess chipset.

As my Nandub skills are now very limited i can only test some peaks with the Fast Motion version of the clip, this version has a average of 1600kBit and peaks going up to 5000kBit (DFRAnalyzer reports 10000kBit as the biggst size, but thats only for some single frames).
My 2cd encodes are Nandub encodes wich should also have some bitrate peaks.
The files were all completely unwatchable with the elta Player. All you could see are a few frames from the whole clip.

I bought it from MediaMarkt (Germany) two weeks ago for 99Euro.
For this price i couldnt resist.

if you find an online store that ships abroad let me know. I got my elta at Media Markt but I haven't seen another DivX capable player since, and no Yamada player whatsoever. I'd sure like to give an ESS based player a spin.

I think that will be difficult the next week(s).
There were only a limited numbers available, and they are completely sold out yet. You cannot even pre-order them anymore at www.mediamarkt.de.
Maybe there are some at eBay but only for horrible prices. The Xoro HSD 400 uses also the ESS chipset, but i heard nothing good about it. (And its also sold out)

I cannot really recommend them until know, theres no zooming for AVI files, (only typical MPEG resolutions are zoomed to fullscreen), and no support for 2 Audio streams.

The zooming should be fixed this month but lets wait and see...

Runtime:01:38:14 (141,308 fr)
X:Y: 640x272 (2.35:1) [=40:17]
Bitrate: 851 kb/s
FPS: 23.976
QF: 0.204 bits/pixel

Audio:

Codec:
Name: 0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3

It doesn't have to be 2mbit average, it can be 600kbit average with 10mbit peaks and you'll get freezes during those peaks.

Just to note, Divx 3.11 plays back very well on the KISS dp-500 player using the sigma 8550 chipset and the new 2.7.0 firmware. So the sigma based players are capable of good 3.11 playback, it just depends on the amount of cache/ram available. Many users however are still having problems with the dp-450 and 3.11 playback

The 8550 chipset seems to be alot better at playback than the 8500 and I hear that the new sigma chipsets are even better.
