As far as I know, that Sony isn't so permissive with edited discs. I could be wrong, but try to find out more about the player.

It's the same process. Try and use multiAVCHD if you have no knowledge whatsoever about BD structure.

You have all you need in the guide. If the pop-up does not work, do not REPLACE the mpls, just edit it with bdedit.

I have noticed that on some original Blu ray discs, there is a pop-up chapter marker and / or timeline when fast forwarding/rewinding or chapter advances. On full movie backups with BD-RB, this is kept. However, if I want to use multiAVCHD and a custom menu, importing a movie only BD-RB AVCHD backup, or a reencoded file from another application or from multiAVCHD, this content is not preserved.
Is there a way to keep this on a multiAVCHD reencode compilation?
Is there a way to import it back into the backup?

I have no idea what is it that you're describing.

Seems pretty rare, but as Caps says, when you attempt a >>| (chapter advance) a graphic pops-up onscreen, with thumbnail images...

An annoying, ugly, awful thing that I can't imagine why anyone would want to retain, but then everyone's different thank heaven...

@Capsbackup Keep the original mpls and just edit it with bdedit, to accomodate the IN_OUT times. So you will have the whole mpls structure, including those marks. This feature is quite common, but, as laserfan says, it's an ugly thing to be seen on screen. Like the ones that appear when you change audio or subtitle streams. But all these features can be kept by keeping the original mpls and just edit the IN_OUT times/PlaylistMarks with bdedit.

I don't know what this feature is, where does it get info for these thumbnails and markers and how to 'keep' them.

I'll appreciate a sample to take a look at it. Is it a MENU element, BD-J feature or something else?

I guess in re-author mode it is kept, isn't it?

BD-J feature, it's only present on BD-J menus.

Then it means that it cannot be added as a feature in multiAVCHD in normal authoring mode, because it uses HDMV/IGS menus and not BD-J.

Feeling a little sheepish now!
I guess I am only one of the few, or only one, out there that thought some of these creative pop-ups on the main feature looked .
I am not comfortable with my capabilities using BDEdit, so I guess these will stay with full backups only.
Thanks for the info!

Yes, at least the several full backups I have done have kept it.

I explained in the guide how to use BDEdit for this kind of editing in detail. With pictures too.

OK, I am feeling a little adventuresome!
I have a project on my HD now that has a full backup from BD-RB that retained this on the main movie.
I would like to:
Import that .mpls only into add video files, for the main movie.
Add my custom menu.
Add some bonus features, gag reel, making of, etc... into a new compilation with multiAVCHD.
After multiAVCHD completes this new backup, do I then substitute/replace the original mpls from BD-RB into the newly created backup from multiAVCHD?
Then use BDEdit?
Sorry if this has been discussed elswhere.

I did not mean to offend; we need people who "think different"!

For my own part, when I make a backup, it's to get rid of all that stuff that IMO wastes bits, when all I want to do is enjoy the movie (though I do always retain chapter markes) with my custom subtitles, at an audio/video quality that is indistinguishable from the original.

If I want to see all the "fluff", then I can just rack-up the original BD (and suffer thru the trailers & warnings & logocrap thereon).

No offense taken, and I definately fall into the category of one who "thinks differently"
