alternative codecs?
well.. I think the issue was brought up before but then nobody seemed interested in continuing that particular thread so here we go again: is there any interest for a forum for alternative codecs? mainly vp3, xvid but also wmv

Of course there are an interest with others codec.
XviD is pretty good and in development, Vp3 is better than DivX 4 with a bitrate <500Kbits, I never tried wmv, but I think it's time to purpose and give support to the alternatives of the DivX codec. People want alternative ! |

@uht: thanks for the offer. I saw that you already offered to help out thewef with the gknot q&a.. so I suggest you focus on that first.. it will already take you some time to handle it and we already have 2 moderators now but thanks for the offer

About XdiV - does anyone know more about this codec? I think I'm starting to understand how it works, using GKnot as stats file calculator between the two steps works fine for me, for a codec under development it's already quite impressive. I'd like to know more details e.g. about the purpose of luma masking, and the advantage of H263 vs. MPEG mode - maybe I shall look deeper into their website, maybe their forum?!
