Encoding to m4a for PS3

I have a few .dts audio streams with very good quality music. They play fine on VLC. I wanted to convert these to AAC-LC multichannel (192 or 256 kbps) so that I can play them on PS3 (either through media server or copying to PS3 hard drive).

I tried using a couple of tools, including MeGUI. With MeGUI, I selected the dts stream as audio input and tried "NDAAC-LC-Multichannel-192Kbps" and "NDAAC-LC-Multichannel-HQ-256Kbps" as output formats. The encoding went through fine in both cases and played back fine on my PC.

But PS3 seems to reject these as "unsupported data format" (both through streaming and local copy).

Could someone tell me if I'm missing some special encoding configuration required by PS3?

I've no idea which requirements the PS3 has. But a good idea would be to test a different AAC encoder. I'd suggest Nero.

Test using a PS3 and a Sony receiver with optical conexion.

PS3 audio config, optical output:
DD 5.1 C- yes
DTS 5.1 C- yes
AAC - No (my receiver don't support)
PCM 44.1 2 C - Yes
PCM 48 2 C - Yes

DTSwav_48KHz.wav like only music OK (DTS in receiver display)
DTSwav_44.1KHz.wav like only music -> noise (PCM in display)
mp4 only music, "unsupported data format"
dts or ac3, ignored

mp4 with video (h264) -> audio decoded to PCM 2 C
mp4 don't support ac3 or dts audio (?)
avi with ac3_44.1KHz -> audio decoded to PCM 2 C
avi with ac3_48KHz > OK (DD in receiver display)

Seems the multichannel audio must be always 48 KHz and can be played like dtswav or avi with ac3 audio, for me.
Maybe with a receiver with AAC support or using HDMI we can use other options.
