Well, I asked for this because I use rather old version 1.6.8.7417 to playback movies on my tv. The reason for this is that this version is the last one which can be configured to have the player UI permanently on the first monitor while playing the fullscreen movie ( rendered by MadVR and the D3D Fullscreen option ticked ) on the second monitor, which is my tv. And this version does not have the "High precision" feature. All later versions have the D3D Fullscreen option greyed out when using MadVR.

In addition I use the actual 1.98 because there are a lot of improvements, but I never recognized the "high precision" option, which is very usefull when editing a video.

D3D Fullscreen is an option that you can set in madVR itself. The option in MPC-HC is only relevant for its internal renderers.

I know that D3D exclusive mode can be enabled within the madVR settings. The reason to use the rather old version 1.6.8 is some kind of "side effect" of the "old" D3D setting within mpc-hc, which was no longer possible after 1.6.8. I like the configuration to have the main MPC-HC window with all the menus and controls always on the first monitor, and only the video output itself, when switched to fullscreen, is moved to the second monitor.

For clarification you might have a look here:

When a .avs script with a syntax error is opened, mpc-hc displays a black frame with the "Cannot render the file" status bar message.
Would it be possible to catch and display the Avisynth exception if avisynth is installed ?

This is the mpv output (in virtualdub2 you get a pop-up error message):
[ffmpeg/demuxer] avisynth: I don't know what 'jhjklhl' means.
[ffmpeg/demuxer] (B:\avs\test_version.avs, line 6)
[lavf] avformat_open_input() failed

Failed to recognize file format.

Exiting... (Some errors happened)

Not possible. LAV does not log or export errors happening in ffmpeg code.

mp4's rotation meta tag doesn't work if the renderer is set to mpc-vr.
manual rotation with alt+numpad works though.
all the other renderers which support rotation, evr-cp/sync/madvr/vmr9renderless seem to work.

tried mpc-be with the same filter set and it works fine.

my mpc-be/mpc-hc/mpc-vr are all latest dev versions.

A question for LAV Audio Decoder:

There's an option "Use dithering for 16-bit output" which is ticked by default. I wonder for untouched/best scenario for audio CDs (flac format), should it be left ticked?

can be ignored leave it at default.
it will only be used for 16 bit output is needed or forced and only if there is something to dither. so leave it on if it is needed for some reasons you want it.

Rotation with MPCVR has been fixed.

Audio dithering only happens when the audio is decoded as 24 or 32-bit and the audio device/renderer only supports 16-bit. So it rarely happens and dithering is actually good for quality. Only reason to disable it is for performance if you have an ancient computer with super slow processor.

  • In the madVR settings, go to rendering -> general settings, and uncheck 'enable automatic fullscreen exclusive mode'
  • In the madVR settings, go to rendering -> windowed mode settings, and set 'how many video frames shall be presented in advance' to 1 or a maximum of 3

clsid, thank you for the support of mpc-hc, I was wondering if it is not being asked, but could you make previews in the seekbar like in mpc-be and potplayer. It will be easier to navigate through a movie.

Siso,

1. Update to the latest build.
2. Go to Options --> Tweaks.
3. Enable "Show preview on seek bar".
4. Enjoy
