Sure it is it all depends on the clip. For your short 1/2 slow 1/2 action clip, with a large MSL buffer, the rate control will fill the MSL buffer in the last 1/2 action part, and average bitrate will end up too high, because there has not been enough time to reduce it after the action. For other clips, and/or longer clips, it will most likely be more accurate.

Hi ppl, it´s me, the rv9 recruit again
As you probably know by now, i´m not an expert in compression test or in english, either
After 10 or 15 movies that i´ve made with rv9, i had noticed something that really disturbs me.
The codec is brilliant, the quality is awesome, but.......(always this little word, he he he), i noticed when the camera moves fast from left to right or from right to left, some freezes occurs...
Maybe is just me that notice these freezes in those scenes, so i installed again Windows XP and Windows 98 with the same results.
I have an Athlon XP 2100+ with 512mb DDR ram and a GF4 video card with latest video drivers, so i think it is not a slow machine problem....
Besides, i tried these movies in a friends machine (Intel 2.4GHZ) with the same results.
I´ve heard that Xvid had the same problem, and because of that they´ve been working for a long time in GMC(Global Motion Compesation).
Maybe is some settings that i use when do the compression, but usually i use AutoRV9. Now i am searching deeper in the docs and start editing the audience files, but right now, i´m in a beginer level

always striving for perfection.. without anything to improve, where would all the fun be?

always use '30'. If the input is 25, or you are using producer's IVTC, '24' will result in dropped frames. This is probably not what's happening here though. '30' will never harm, even when your input is pre-inverse telecine'd and already 23.976 fps.

How are you playing back your encodes? with Media Player Classic / DirectShow or RealOne?

Is there a difference in smoothness in how the RV9 and XviD synthetic test clips play back?

If none of these tips provid a clue.. Are the 'skips' always at the same location, and 100% reproducible? If yes, please use the command line tool 'rmeditor' to extract a few seconds around the problem area and get in touch with me via PM so I can help you figure out if there were frames dropped during the encode, or if it is a playback problem. In general, playback should always be pretty smooth.

Wow......lots of things to try.........thanks a lot ppl.......the last movie that i tried was "THE RECRUIT" which a friend of mine gave to me to watch........
