Deinterlacing with Yadif(1)

@manolito: You had this and some more questions about deinterlacing in the past few weeks. I was unhappy about the deinterlacing-results of software-deinterlacers, too. And same as you, I wondered, why my TV gives me a much better deinterlacing-result in realtime-interlacing compared to any software-non-realtime-interlacer.

I don't know much about deinterlacing, but I found out, that the following way delivers nearly perfect results for me:

Add the filter "Field >> Advanced >> Yadif" in StaxRip. Then doubleclick "Yadif" to edit the script and change "Yadif()" to "Yadif(1)".

And that's it. Now the framerate of your video will be doubled, but this doesn't mean that the file size of your video will be doubled, too. But the deinterlacing-result is great. Check it out.

Regards,
Salazar

Why cant stax cut ac3 correctly whene there are bitrate changes in stream?

Example, Natgeo hd in netherlands use 5.1 audio with bitrate 384 whene there is a show running, but in the breaks they use ac3 2.0 and lower bitrate 192, the problem is that stax wont cut the ac3 correcly, only for 38 min or lower whene show is 44min, so no audio for last 6min.

Complete name : E:\video\drugs.inc.206 temp files\drugs.inc.206 PID 052 3_2ch 48KHz 384Kbps DELAY 143ms_Cutting.ac3
Format : AC-3
Format/Info : Audio Coding 3
File size : 105 MiB
Duration : 38mn 8s
Overall bit rate : 384 Kbps

Audio
Format : AC-3
Format/Info : Audio Coding 3
Mode extension : CM (complete main)
Duration : 38mn 8s
Bit rate mode : Constant
Bit rate : 384 Kbps
Channel(s) : 6 channels
Channel positions : Front: L C R, Side: L R, LFE
Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz
Bit depth : 16 bits
Stream size : 105 MiB (100%)

you see instead of 44min58sec it only takes 38min.

That an issue with virtualdubmod, or at least an issue in combination with virtualdubmod. Since Virtualdubmod hasn't been worked on for a very long time, don't count on a fix. Instead, click on options, open audio, and select 'fmpeg' for force decoding. Then, click on tools, settings, and under demuxing, deselect demux avi, and also demux mkv (etc)...

It should now decode the file directly, and cut it correctly. Keep in mind though it uses a bit more disk space due to the decoding. Keep in mind it will require re-encoding, whether that be to AAC, MP3 etc, and it won't be 5.1. That said, if you have the option of DTS neo:6 or something similar, you don't miss the 5.1 because that info is encoded onto the stereo track when its decoded and re-encoded that probably didn't make sense, maybe someone else can discuss it better.

MKV to MP4 - No chapters

It looks like MP4Box can only use chapter files in the OGM format.

When I try to convert an MKV file with chapters (created by MakeMKV from a DVD source) StaxRip uses mkvextract for chapter extraction. The chapter file is in XML format.

MP4Box is used to create the final MP4 file. The command line has "-chap MyChapterfile.XML" in it. There is no error message, but the resulting MP4 file has no chapters.

Of course I can mux the chapters into the file manually, but I think StaxRip should do that automatically...

Cheers

So basicly because Staxrip creates a temp dir with a space in the directory name, it won't encode it.

Anyway it is fixed

Oop, totally forgot to reply. Thanks but with the current version of Staxrip I got no problems with packed bitstream anymore. Two things I wonder though: when encoding DVDs

- is demuxing really necessary
- can Staxrip automatically create a chapter.txt from the IFOs/VOBs?

Remixing is necessary so the audio and video is processed separately. Stsxrip should create the chapters for you, has it not been doing this?

Not for DVD sources. IIRC Stax himself recommends in the Wiki to rip the DVD to MKV first with MakeMKV. When this MKV is used as the source for StaxRip, the chapters will be extracted from the MKV.

If you want to use the VOBs as your source then you have to extract the chapters manually from the IFO (ChapterXtractor or ChapterGen) and export them to the OGG format (probably a good idea to change the .ogm extension to .txt). In StaxRip you can specify to use this chapter file under "Config Container".

Anyone have any idea of how I can get 10bit x264 to work with StaxRip?

When I replace the 8bit x264 that comes with StaxRip with the latest 10bit version I get this error that it's not compatible with my version of windows bla bla bla and I have narrowed it down to the pretty obvious reason for this error to show up and that is the 10bit x264 I added.

Which is done by AutoGK without demuxing.

That's what I meant. Doing it manually with ChapterXtractor sucks (as does extra conversion to MKV) but oh well...

What would make you think autogk doesn't demux? I have never used autogk but a quick google search of "autogk demuxing" brought a many results discussing autogk demuxing and indexing phase. Seems autogk does demux
