How do I add custom thumbnail (file jpg etc.) in a MP4-MKV?

How do I add custom thumbnail (file jpg ecc.) in a MP4-MKV?

Example: This is a MP4 with custom thumbnail.

For mp4 on Win7 you can use mp3tag to add cover. Alternatively I believe you can use mp4box if you prefer commandline interface.
For mkv probably there is no way. Well you can add image but it seems there is no way to display it. Thumbnailing support was removed from haali splitter. You probably need to ask divx to add support for it to their mediafoundation component. Actually maybe I should ask too.
