I've been using this program for a while now to convert HD DVDs for playing on my PS3 and think it's great.

Having recently got an Iphone I thought I would try and convert one of my films to watch on that. I have tried the default settings for Iphone/Ipod and the conversion worked fine but disappointingly the image is very small as it is a full width letterbox with black bars top and bottom.

Can anyone suggest some settings that would use the full 480 x 320 screen of the phone cropping the image on either side? This way I would hope to get a good size and good quality image.

Is the information collected in pass1 "job1.stats" using ripbot, bitrate specific to the job or does it analyse the video data for any re-encode ?
For example if I re-encode a movie using ripbot at a fixed bitrate of 4000kbps (720p) and then edit the job1 settings to re-encode the same movie at 6000kbps(720p), can I then maually run only pass 2: "job1_EncodeVideoPass2.cmd" alowing it to use the previously generated "job1.stats"?
Thx for any help.

I've just used RipBot264 and its very easy to use. However, I finished my first re-profile from a 6.8GB High@L5.1 MKV and ended up with a 4.1GB High@L4.0 MKV.

The thing that worries me is the rather large decrease in filesize of 2.7GB. Surely, this must have a considerable impact on quality? Is there some setting I should use in order to keep the video bit rate as high as possible?

A 2nd thing I noticed is that the subtitle stream has disappeared in the re-profiled version? Did I miss some setting for keeping subtitles? I do see a Subtitles-button but this appears to be a way for adding external subtitle files.

What causes the error of deleting the video.mkv file after analysing it and give the error cannot find file video.mkv?

I am suddenly getting this with both verion 13 and 14 after half a dozen successful encodes. The strange thing is I have already analysed the blu ray sucessfully but had to cancel and delete the ripbot temp directory.
??? Now I wonder what your talking about... I never heard of anything like this...

kriz6912 - If you want to retain same filesize - use 2-pass encode and set filesize in ripbot . Subtitles can only be added from external files with ripbot - First you need to make a .srt from your original .mkv and - then, best way with ripbot, is to build subtitles into the movie.

Indeed. I tend to do a crop/addborders combo (if the movie isn't full 1080 pixels in height, of course), should I need subtitles (for Kill Bill and such). So, say, the main movie is 'effectively' 800px in height (of a full 1080), I would add this to the avs script:

video=Crop(video, 0, 140, 0, -140)
video=AddBorders(video, 0, 48, 0, 232)

A bottom-margin of 232 (or near about) nicely positions the movie so you can have subtitles underneath it, instead of over it (which I think looks gross).

I think I have solved it but not sure what caused it. The Blu Ray is Prince Caspian. I created a Blu Ray with just AC3 audio and the original H264 video. Eac3to and Ripbot seemed to report the length as 13m 15s instead of 2.5 hours. I separated the video and AC3 and remuxed them back together. It now saids 2.5 hours in Ripbot and I now have a video.mkv at the end of analysis.

The other strange thing is Ripbot already analysed the files before without any problems.

Is there any way to have chapters imported from DVD/VOB files like they are done from Blu-Ray/M2TS files? It doesnt seem to matter whether mp4 or mkv files are created on the output. There are simply no chapters from a DVD.

Why no UAC

Just curious, but why does UAC need to be disabled?

If I select 2-Pass I can choose a video bit rate between 256 Kbps and 8192 Kbps. I'm unsure what to choose here since it's not the actual file size that needs to be entered here but the video bit rate (and is this a variable bit rate or fixed ?).

I guess selecting the maximum of 8192 would yield the best quality but might increase size of the file unnecessarily. On the other hand 8192 Kbps (or 'KBPS' as stated by Ripbot but I assume it's kilobit ripbot is talking about and not kilobyte) would mean 8 mbit which then sounds very limiting for high quality blu-ray rips.

As you can see I'm somewhat confused.

I seem to have problem encoding U2 : Rattle and Hum HD-DVD.

This is found in the "video - Log.txt"

Unfortunately the Haali Muxer cannot handle this source file.
It doesn't contain enough seek/recovery points.
The "-seekToIFrames" option may work around that.
However, using this option may result in artifacts when seeking.

This is found in mkvinfo.txt

Those last two are fixed for when your target is DVD-5 or DVD-9 (dual-layer writeables).

Can someone explain what "build subtitles into the movie" means? Is this similar to forced subtitles?

I get the error in the attached image. "Directshowsource: Timeout waiting for graph to start".

I've searched and tried several fixes which have not helped.

The problem started with I upgraded to version 1.11.4. I had the "mjpg" error when starting the new version after I upgraded ffdshow. Per a post, I added "ffdshow_vfw" & the "default" key which seemed to fix that problem.

What is causing the timeout issue and how can I fix it?

Thank you.

It is. I used it with Pans Labyrinth and the subtitles come up automatically. I am not sure if they can be turned off.
