DivX Pro 5.05, bitrates and quantizers
Have just made the jump from 5.02 to 5.05.
Just wondering what do I use for say, quant 8 (or 12 or 16 etc) when processing end-credits with 5.05 as there is now no 1-pass(quality) setting as there was with 5.02? Also: Even in the High Definition profile, Quarter Pixel and GMC in MPEG Tools remain greyed out - any idea why? thanx JB Last edited by JimmyBarnes; 2nd June 2003 at 13:53. |

I think that is not right. GMC and QP are MPEG4 compliant but they need much memory or high calculation power; i.e. for a manufacturer who produces specialized MPEG4 chips this means a higher complexity and higher costs/development effort. And DXN is trying to make the production easier...
MPEG4 has dozens of profiles (f.E.: MPEG4 simple profile = DivX basic; MPEG4 advanced simple Profile = DivX pro incl Bframes,Qpixel, GMC). But DXN thought that their profiles, that limit the bitrates and that are almost simple profile except for bframes (that have the biggest influence in quality) are better to fit manufacturers needs... |
