Why does my external LG dvd burner burn at 412 KB/s?

LG portable super multi drive - model:GP10NB20
dual USB plug (power+data)

plugging into an Acer Aspire 5250 laptop
the internal drive is fracked. just sayin.

And yes, 412 is correct, it takes 185 minutes to burn 4472 MB.

Any insight would be great, thanks!

Some shots into the blue:
- Try another USB port
- Try a powered USB hub
- Try a different DVD media type (e.g. other brand)
- Try another ISO / DVD structure which you try to burn
- Try the external drive connected to another PC

I have an external BD burner by LG and it works flawlessly with similar speeds to an internal drive connected to a SATA connector.
