WMV videos not playing anymore

Ok, hope this is the right forum for help. If it's wrong, please move it to the right one, thank you mods...

My problem:

Out of nowhere my WMV videos stop working. Yes, out of nowhere... I didn't install any new codec, I don't use any codec pack.

The wmv files, on the Gpost, this is the info:

"
Codec: WMV3
Name: WMP v9 (VC-1 Simple/Main)
Status: Codec Status Undetermined
"

The problem it's only with WMV3 video files.

With WMV1 files and WMV2, it works. On Gpost it got this info:

"
Codec: WMV1
Name: WMP v7
Status: Codec Status Undetermined

----------------

Codec: WMV2
Name: WMP v8
Status: Codec Status Undetermined
"

Still 'Undetermined' but it works, go figure it out...

I use the 'Media Player Classic' to play the movies, when I open one of the WMV3 videos, it appears 'Cannot render the file'.

What I did to try to fix it ?

Downloaded and installed:

- WM9Codecs.exe (Windows Media Player 9 Series Codecs)
- wmfdist.exe (Windows Media Format 9 Series Runtime)
- wmfdist-11.exe (Windows Media Format 11 runtime)
- wmpplugin.exe (Windows Media Player Plug-in)
- wmv9VCMsetup.exe (Windows Media Video 9 VCM)
- wmencoder71.exe (Windows Media Encoder 7.1)

Everything about the WMV codecs from Microsoft. And.... nothing, nada... same problem. I don't know how to uninstall all the wmv codecs and start again to fix it.. can anyone helpme out ? What should I do ?

Tried other players with "codecs inside".

Tried 'KMPlayer', nothing, only blank.
Tried 'VLC', all the videos (more than 20) show just garbage... nothing inside it.

Btw, these videos was working before.

Installed one programa called 'AVIcodec', put the wmv inside and:

"Video : 1.75 MB, 230 Kbps, 9.578 fps, 320*240 (4:3), WMV3 = Windows Media Video 9, Supported"

Go figure it out...

Tried one program called 'Sherlock - The Codec Detective', no problems with these codecs. And everything is installed.

So, what can I do to fix it ?

Thanks.

- sorry about my english, thanks for any correction on it -

Did you try Windows Media Player 10 or 11?

No I didn't.

I don't have any 'Windows Media Player' installed on my computer.

I play all my files on Media Player Classic.

Thanks for the only reply

Hi!

1) If your OS is Windows XP, try performing a "System Restore" back to the last time things were working properly.

2) If you try to create a new file using the WMV3 codec, does it work?

3) What software and procedures did you use to create the videos that no longer play?

4) Have you performed a virus check?
