There appears to be a problem with the english or any subtitles being forced on with no option to turn them off through the menu or through the remote. I am using BD-RBV03803 to make a full backup of True Blood season 3. I have tried two different times now, with the same results. Subtitles are always on regardless if the subtitle set up page says they are off. There is no way to turn them off.
The original does not display this same behavior. I have not had this happen on any other title, so perhaps True Blood Season 3 is unique... damn vampires! |

EDIT: If I select another language, then that language is displayed always, even though the subtitle selection button option says " None " for the subtitles to be displayed. Last edited by Capsbackup; 7th June 2011 at 15:22. |

I had something very similar on 'the girl with the dragon tattoo' - I put it down to moving between Swedish and English soundtracks but I couldn't turn off the english subtitles - never got to the bottom of it and forgot to raise it.

BD Rebuilder exceeding 40 mbps on some titles
I apologize if I posted this in the wrong spot, but I could not find any post specifically dealing with this problem.
I've been using BD Rebuilder for quite some time, and I must say it's a great tool and very reliable. I've encountered very few problems...and the results are often amazing. But very recently I encountered some issues with a couple of Blu-Ray discs (where the movie is in the 38-39GB range). These both were shot in a soft look, which appears to cause some issues and results in VERY HIGH bit rates even when compressed down to a BD25. In particular is AI (Artificial Intelligence), where I've noticed that BD Rebuilder has a number of sequences where the re-encoded bitrate exceeds the original (which was already high). Generally these are in the low 40 mbps range, which is above the Blu-Ray standard. Interesting these high bitrate sections playback ok on my Sony BX-37. However, generally each time there is a bitrate spike it's followed by scene using a lower bit rate...and quite often when this occurs, the video freezes for 1-2 seconds and resumes. This only happens when played on my BX-37 (which is update to date with regard to firmware). Since this only happens for the two films where BD Rebuilder pushed the bitrate above 40, and does not occur for any other film I've re-encoded with BD Rebuilder, I'm thinking it's related to that excessively high bitrate. Many of these high bit rate scenes are low-contrast without obvious reason for the high bitrate...except that they are complex video scenes with low-contract and that semi-frosted look that some film makers are striving for. Except for the freezing, the end result look great. In fact, the re-encode is slightly sharper with less noise. Now I've tried all the possible settings (High Speed, Good, Better, High Quality, and Highest Quality)...and this is one movie where the highest encoding actually makes it better without introducing DNR artifacts and without adding additional softness or reducing the color, or shifting the color. All resulted in at least some freezing, with the Highest Quality setting introducing the most...mainly because it introduced the most high bitrate spikes. So my question is...is there a way or and option to limit the maximum bitrate to under 40 mbps? Note than when I compressed down to a BD5 (which still looks ok), the playback appeared without any freezing. Which tends to imply the problem is the high bit rate... |

How are you determining that the bitrate is above 40Mbs? BD Rebuilder already has code that limits the average bitrate in the command line -- and the maximum (--vbv-maxrate) is always set to 35Mbs or below (occasionally the combined audio bitrate drives it lower).
If you're seeing spikes above 40Mbs, I'd have to believe there may be some glitch in X264's limiting algorithm. A player should be able to handle spikes through it's buffering, but they have to be very short. Last edited by jdobbs; 7th June 2011 at 17:37. |

The BD-RE of the BD-RB backup has the subtitles on all the time regardless of playing back on my S360, BX1 or Power DVD and TMT3. I always burn to disc for the ultimate test of standalone playback. I became suspicious when the software playback had the subtitles on all the time. So this reporting is only after confirming that as well as exhausting all other reasons on my end! I have tried two different Blu-ray titles after this problem, ripping them with AnyDVD HD with no changes, doing full backups with BD-RBV03803, and I cannot repeat this issue. So it seams to be related to True Blood S3 D1. I have not tried discs 2-5 yet, but I will and let you know if this happens on these discs too. |

The Pacific Disc 3
Hi all, very useful forum. Did a search on Pacific, got this thread as a hit, and, well, it's a bazillion pages. I spent some time looking through it but as you can imagine, no luck. So anyway...
Trying to back up my Blu disc set of The Pacific. No problems with Discs 1, 2, and 4 so far, but Disc 3 is stumping me. I'm selecting BD-R since that's what I'm backing up to but the file size after BD Builder is a couple hundred sectors larger than the BD-R. I've tried custom size, but same problem. I really don't want to go to DVD DL so what's the trick to forcing a couple hundred sectors off this rebuild? Particulars: BDRebuilder ver 38.03 beta ImgBurn v2.5.5.0 reports file size as 12,283,158 sectors and BD-R as 12,281,442 sectors. Tried to backup anyway, ran out of space, backup failed. Any suggestions? |

Can you post your INI so I can test it with the same settings? Ughh... I really hate vampire movies. Zombies are so much more fun. Why couldn't you have found the problem in "Shaun of the Dead" or "Zombieland"? Hmmm -- maybe I should try "The Pacific Disc 3" instead...

This last test was done at quickest setting to BD5 for DVD+RW testing so bitrates will be quite low. The first test was to BD9, but I since have run this latest test, so I don't have that INI. Hey everyone, I know this has probably been discussed before but I can't remember the answer or maybe there is a new recomendation now for tne newest version. I have some concert BD disks that I am backing up and they are mostly 1080i VC-1 29.97 video. I noticed that these files have the little asterick " ** " indicator in the stream section but when it shows the source in the log section while processing the "**" are not shown. What is the best method to keep the BD_RB output smooth like the original, without judders or smearing? Does BD_Rebuilder leave the output still interlaced like the original if you take out the checkmark from "use DEINTERLACER on interlaced sources? Also while we are on this subject what about the use "IVCT sources with 3.2 pulldown? What is the very best solution for 1080i output for NTSC 29.97?
PS: thanks, dobbs for this great program, when I get over paying for the new computer I will be sure to send another donation. I think I wore out the old one with BD_RB, LOL! |
