Tinny Sound from Digital Still Camera AVI

Hi All,
I want to create MPG's from the AVI files that an old Digital Still Camera I had made. The problem is that the audio is very tinny in sound. The only thing that I can think of is that for the output, TMPG has a minimum sampling rate of 32Khz and Bitrate of 32Kbits/s and the AVI is 8Khz at 4.28Kbits/s.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is not working?

Thanks for your time.
