No Disk...Need Help...

OK, I have a couple DVDs I'm trying to make backups of and everytime I try DVD Shrink does not even recognize a DVD in the drive.

In fact when I go to My Computer the DVD drive doesn't recognize a DVD and my media player doesn't recognize a DVD.

Any ideas?

Editted to add: No problems on my other DVDs just a couple.

Are the region codes different on the discs you're having problems with?
Are the discs scratched or dirty?
Does your computer recognise the drive you are placing the discs into?

The region codes should be cool. US company made for the US and they play in my stand alone DVD player. Not dirty or scratchy.

My computer recognizes the drive and any other DVDs I put in it. But when I try one of these two NOTHING.

I'm pretty lost.

Is it possible they have some copyright protection that prevents the computer from recognizing or playing the DVD?

I'd say first thing to do would be trying to read these discs in a different DVD drive. It's unlikely that there is a special copyright protection unless these are some unusual DVD. Still, try holding Shift when inserting the disc and for a few seconds after to prevent auto-start of whatever software they could contain.

OK, it works in my other computer but that one doesn't have a DVD burner to make backups. For some reason my computer with the DVD burner does NOT recognize the DVD.

I tried holding the shift key so it wouldn't auto run but still getting a "No Disk" error.

Load DVD Decrypter without the disc in the drive.

THEN insert the disc and take note of what it says in the status bar - it'll probably change so remember them all!

"Disk Is Empty" error

"Disk Is Empty"
I got the above message when trying to load any DVD into DVD Decrypter.
The Noble Author of DVD Decrypter pointed out that this is common behavior when older versions of Blindwrite's buggy Patin-Couffin drivers are still in the system.

Could this relate to your problem?
If so, in Win98 look in Windows\System\IOSUBSYS for

PCOUFFIN.VXD
PcAtip.vxd

Or try installing the newest Blindwrite5. Then remove it.

See "Disk Is Empty" topic under

I'm not sure this helps, but sometimes my computer doesn't recognize that I've inserted another DVD. I discovered that by going into My Computer and right clicking the DVD drive and selecting Eject from the menu will cause the drive to refresh as empty, at that point I can close the tray and it recognizes the new disc.

I used to have a problem with some movies, as both windows XP and DVD Decrypter would recognize inserted movie dvd's as blank dvds. The movies were original stamped movies, and my dvd players would recognize and play the film, just my computer would not recognize anything from the disks. I would get this error with dvd decrypter:

UDF File System Parsing Failed!
Device [1:0:0] SONY DVD RW DRU-700A VY02 (K:)
Reason: Function 'UDFFindPartition' returned 0

I was using dvd decrypter 3.2.3.0, and the way I got those movies to work was to run dvd decrypter first, then insert the dvd while holding shift, and dvd decrypter would recognize the movie just fine. Hope this helps some.
