I think a lot of people are afraid by losing 1MB for RAM and 0.01% for CPU, but if it's well-conceived, you will just lose some RAM, and a bit of CPU at start. Nothing to worry about except when you are obsessed by your task manager.

I'm ok with MPC-HC but if it had a new skin (with useful information like codecs) for window version, it could be nice... For Full Screen, there's no need for a new interface, I think it has to be the one from renderer (the seekbar from MadVR is great and enough).

So I read today that Windows 8 will no longer support DVD playback. Does this mean mpc-hc loses its DVD Navigator ( outdated and buggy as it is )?

Its not "its" DVD Navigator, its the one that comes with Windows. I'll agree on buggy, but Outdated - well i suppose, but so is the medium.
Anyway, we won't know if the DVD Navigator will be included unless someone goes and checks!

That was my point. Although mpc-hc can use all kinds of other filters for decoding it has always used the Windows DVD Navigator and now it "seems" it will not be in Windows 8, if this is to be believed.

About the seekbar, I still wish that one of the free players will add the preview-on-hover. I found it ironic that YouTube has it before any native players. Well, at least Splash player has it before but it's not free. Of course, I understand it's not easy to add, so I'm not put too much hope on it.

And despite the fact that madVR is my choice of renderer, the style of its seekbar is not my favorite. But that's for another topic.

Does MPC-HC H.264 DXVA decoder on Intel HD 2000 process deblocking?
I'm seeing artifacts when using it.
Other DXVA decoders is OK. (MS DTV-DVD, LAV, PotPlayer)

No-one in his right mind will even THINK about using Windows 8, so I am not worried about that at all.

With MPC-HC x64 1.6.2.4360, the following MPEG1 video has issues with seeking. When you seek to a different position, the sound is fine but the picture is frozen. Seeking works fine with VLC:

Are you sure the internal filters are used? They are normally disabled for MPEG1 so it may be unrelated with MPC-HC.

I always use all internal filters. But when I hover my mouse on MPEG1, I have a message saying it's buggy. Maybe someone could look into it?

MPC-HC's MPEG1 filter is buggy with libmpeg2.
VLC's MPEG1 filter is not buggy with libmpeg2.

From: http://libmpeg2.cvs.sourceforge.net/...og?view=markup
We have:
mpeg2dec-0.3.1 Fri Dec 13 22:15:36 PST 2002
mpeg2dec-0.4.0 Tue Dec 23 03:04:35 PST 2003

From: http://svn.videolan.org/filedetails....nk%2FChangeLog
We have:
mpeg2dec-0.4.1 Wed Feb 15 17:08:28 CET 2006
libmpeg2-0.5.0 Fri Jun 11 23:42:12 CET 2008
libmpeg2-0.5.1 Fri Jul 18 16:28:49 CEST 2008

From: http://mpc-hc.svn.sourceforge.net/vi...02&view=markup
We have:
#define MPEG2_RELEASE MPEG2_VERSION (0, 3, 2) /* 0.3.2 */

Are you sure the internal filters are really used in this case (check Play --> Filters)? I think MPEG1 decoding is disabled except for debug builds.

Yes, sure. And as a proof:
1) I provided a video sample above (7 Mb only)
2) If I uncheck the MPEG-1 Video internal filter, the seeking works fine.

I compared the revisions of MPC-HC and VLC regarding libmpeg2:
* we have common code from middle of August 2003. It was libmpeg2 0.3.1. The code was in C and split in small files.
* VLC: they became the official host for libmpeg2 and they now host version 0.5.1. Changes were made by walken, sammy and massiot. The code is in C and split in small files.
* MPC-HC: they numbered their fork 0.3.2. Changes were made by casimir666, drevil_xxl, Spec-chum, xhmikosr, kinddragon and Aleksoid. The code is in C++ with some ASM and merged in big files.

So it's not easy to diff those two 8-9 years-old branches and see what change they made that we could apply to fix the seeking in MPEG1.
